Drilling extra holes in frame

Hello,

Any dangers, rules, or pointers I should keep in mind when drilling holes into any part of the frame? I don't want to weaken it or harm the structual intergrity in any way. I don't like the idea of drilling into it at all, but I need to place some clamps in in order to run some cable.

Now under the cab area above the spining shaft I made some "L" shaped sheetmetal pieces and used 3M attachment tape to attach them. I drilled into the pieces and not the cab, but I need to run heavy cabling along the inside of the left frame rail.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
IM

Drill away!
You won't hurt anything.
Back in the early sixties there were Pontiac's with a multitude of holes in the frame. Purposefully done to shave off weight for racing.
They called them 'Swiss Cheese' Pontiac's!!
Check out this frame.

Re: Drilling extra holes in frame

I wouldn't drill any holes near where these frames crack such as steering box and shock mounts.
