Re: Shop truck build

Sooooo...we've got a situation...

Wayyy back, I kinda told you all about the goofy fella that yanked out my original V6 and dropped in the ole V8...to call him a shoddy mechanic would be very generous and I've been finding all kinds O'surprises...here's the latest...This ole boy excelled at laziness and instead of finding some V8 frame perches, he simply moved the V6 ones and welded them (kinda) in place - would've been too difficult to drill holes...

Well, I would certainly like to put the correct perches on the frame...I am not lazy and have been scouring the Netscape for some new perches and I'm'a not findin any...
Outside of hitting the junk yard...anybody got any ideas on where a fella could find the frame perches for an 85 C10 350...

Either my Google is broken or no one is repopping them...

for your viewing pleasure...

I have heard of them called perches but I think they are more commonly called motor mounts. Try that search and I'll bet you'll find em.

Perch may not be the right name for em (it's what I saw em called elsewhere)...it's the part that attaches to the frame and the mounts then attach to them...

I circled em in red...

I gotcha. Seems like the wreckers might be a good reference point. Somebody on here has got to have a set they aren't going to use. I'd give you a set but you'd hafta help me pull the motor in my parts truck first, haha.

Man! I have really neglected this thread and again, I apologize...

I'll start with the Sniper EFI...quite simply, this thing Rocks! Total install (fuel pump and fuel lines) and wiring time was about 2 hours - it was a bit easy because of Rusty's lift. Truck fired on the 1st turn and it took about 10 minute for the computer to "learn" the motor...them puters have come a long way since my ole Commodore 64...

The only complaint about the system is the same one that everyone else has...The pedal is STIFFFFF and the throttle response takes a bit getting used to...all four flaps flap at the same flapping time! Sooo, at intersections you either creep through like your 98 and fell asleep waiting for the light to turn or you are spinnin your one legged beast like a 16 yr driving his cheerleader girlfriend's mustang...
I just ordered the progressive link that Holley does not recommend and I'll let you know how it works...everybody says it makes things mo better and everybody is always right...

Other than that, the truck fires immediately, there's no quadra-junk stumble, no gas fumes (kinda miss that) and it just works!

Re: Shop truck build

I finally found a set of frame/engine perches at an old school junk yard on the east side of Indy (the P&Ps had been thoroughly picked!)

Re: Shop truck build

You might be getting tired of my hearing about these "perches" but it is amazing how one simple part can totally throw off things and grind progress to a halt...

The goofball mechanic that put in the last engine must've had his wife weld in the old perches cause they were much better than any of the other welds on the truck...

anyway...they are cleaned up and installed...all that's left to do is everything else...
