Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Bit the bullet! Took off the front of the 57. It was surprisingly easy as I have not taken off the fenders before. I will repair most of my previous mistakes, custom radiator supports, including steering, changing to IFS, exhaust that falls off every week, replace the lower sheet metal that bent in an accident, and add a condenser for a/c when i put it back together.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Got new front tires, the old ones were balding and kept losing air.

Put the side rails back on the flat bed. I sanded down and refinished them. They were grey and worn like the bed is now... gonna refinish the bed next. There was a debate with friends and family whether the side rails should stay off or on. I think I like it better with the side rails on.

I've had mine off and on three times in the last two weeks, make it a lot easier to do fab stuff up front.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Was actually late last night but I started planning a total re-wire of engine & body. I'd gotten the truck running but never could make it "clean"... hoping to fix that.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Got the new rear shock mounts welded in and painted. Had all the new brake lines in and ready to bleed but stripped out the proportioning valve (aluminum) on the last line going in so had to order a replacement...maybe next week.

Very close to having it back on the road!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Finally got around to fixing something that had been bugging me since I got my truck. The right front radiator support pad had no shims or cushions at all, metal to metal and about 1/4" slop. Went to my local Ace hardware and got some rubber washers and nice thick steel washers and installed them. no more clanking over the bumps!

Finally got around to installing speakers. Just finished and haven't driven it yet to see how it sounds when it's competing with wind noise, but it sounds good sitting in the garage.

I eliminated the tailgate chains. I have been thinking of this modification for a while and finally got around to it.

Finished up the AC lines, now need to sell the r12 compressor and buy the r134a model. Also picked up the vinyl for the visors.

I decided that it was time to move the battery off the fire wall. Its new home will be down low and in front of the cab mount. Started making the new covered battery box today. It will slide forward and tip out for access. It will be finished this week sometime.

Late last night, I sectioned & re-soldered the transmission / pass. o2 sensor / crank sensor leg of my engine harness. One down, three to go.

I changed power steering fluid and completely flushed out the pump and gearbox in the process.

Nothing really sexy.
