Front shock options

Hi:
What are you guys using for front shocks in stock setup? I can't find any performance or heavy duty brands for stock setup replacement.

Thanks

Re: Front shock options

Reply deleted. I saw your truck is a 3/4-ton so my suggestion may not work.

Re: Front shock options

if you have the stock number go to monroe.com shocks site and either cross reference or look in the catalog for what you want. i only new the length and approximate travel when i flipped my axle on top of stock springs. i looked thru the monroe catalog until i found a shock that worked

Re: Front shock options

A Monroe 5826 is the "regular" shock for a 53 3100, 3600 or 3800.

MONROE 5826 Specifications
Dust Shield Yes
Extended Length (in.) 16.375
Upper Mounting Description Stem Mount - 2.3/8" Stem Length X 3/8"-16 Thread Pitch
Lower Mounting Description Stem Mount - 2.3/8" Stem Length X 3/8"-16 Thread Pitch
Compressed Length (in.) 10.125
Travel Length (in.) 6.250
Parts Pack(s) P01134
Cylinder Included No
Compressed Bumper Stop No
Extended Bumper Stop No
Extended Hydraulic Lockout No
Dust Shield Material Metal

Stud on each end plus the extended and compressed lengths should get you there.

Lots of years of selling and installing shocks says that 75% of the time you really don't want a heavy duty shock unless you are doing heavy duty driving.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Front shock options

Thank you guys.
I saw some Monroe and Gabriel on rockauto. I was just wondering if there are other option such as Bilstein or Koni. What I was thinking was since I am stuck with my front solid axle due to being 8 lug, I want to be the best shock that I can for driving point of view.

Re: Front shock options

The Gabriel shock is about an inch longer
https://gabriel.com/product-search/l...?partnum=81270

Koni doesn't list a 53 truck and some of the listings that the Gabrial page above show don't work on the Koni page.

Rancho is a waste of time

KYB doesn't show much either.

They most likely have something on the line of what you are/were thinking of but you will have to get into the size charts and using the info from the Monroe page start hunting.

Re: Front shock options

3/4T truck will ride like a truck regardless of what shock you put on there
my 1T 59 panel didn't have shocks in the back from the factory, no mounts
i could barely get my pinky between the tire and the fender, it never rubbed

Re: Front shock options

In my mind you can't go wrong with QA-1 adjustable shocks for performance. Give them a call and they will most likely be able to fix you up.
