It is what I have always called them. There are two theories to the name. One is to see how close you can get your truck to overhead objects without hitting them. The other is that they are like the lights used on vehicles that haul chickens.

Mine has them, they will always be there. I need new firemen's hats but I got my old ones superglued together until I have enough money for new ones!

If I had a C30 truck, I'd want cab lights. I might also want them on a C/K20, panel, and suburban of that size.

My 68 2500 has them but they must have been put on by a P.O or by a strange dealer.. My cab lights are evenly spaced on the roof rather than having 3 lights in the center and 2 on the outside.. I really, really want to correct this.. I love the lights on my 3/4 ton but the spacing is just wrong, Has anyone ever seen this before?? (Hit the link for a pic of my truck)

C30s have special raised pads stamped into the roofs that the clearance lights sit on. I am wondering if 10s and 20s also got this roof, or if the lights were just stuck on the stock uncontoured roof.

My 68 K10 does not have any humps on the roof under the lights.
However, I was told that it came with them from the factory Either way... I like em! |

Wifes 70.
I have a 70 and a 71, both 1/2 ton, both 4x4 with the raised pads and roof lights factory. And have never heard them called "chicken lights"

Early trucks and suburbans as well as later dealer/owner installed lights were on the stock flat roof. The later pickup trucks and chassis cabs used the raised pad roof for factory installed roof marker lamps. Early on it was common to see creative spacing or numbers on owner installed lamps. Some were even seen with the early "Big Truck" style of two lamps. I've also seen a number of trucks with just three in the center(ish)up to ten! Heard them called a lot of things, especially leakers, but never "chicken lights".
