wrangler tank mount question

when mounting the tank in the 67 short stepper, is it better to drop in since i have the bed off or mount from underneath?. im worried about clearance issues for the filler and the sender unit.
Edit! More questions and pics below!!!
Thanks in advance!

Re: wrangler tank mount question

It would be much much easier to install from the top with the bed off..unless you have measured prior to pulling the bed it would mak it a little harder...I would set the bed on and mock up the tank where it needs to sit and take a bunch of measurements..pull bed and then fab mounts and install..

Re: wrangler tank mount question

update.
ok now shes in, strapped up and lookiooing good. i decided to go from underneath instead of doppping in from the top and it worked well. gettng ready to put the bed on now.
question. do i only need to trim the crossrail to clear the fuel sender or trim the rail to clear the whole top of the tank?

Re: wrangler tank mount question

Ok did i do something wrong here? It looks like ill have to completley cut the drossmember instead of just trimming to lay the bed back on the frame. Suggestions?

Re: wrangler tank mount question

on my install I had to cut a section out of the bed support to clear the top of the tank.

Re: wrangler tank mount question

anybody have pics of their crossmember cutouts? should i lower my tank a little?
will cutting the crossmember the width of the tank compromise its strength and if so how did yall reinforce it?
