Some n20 test and tuning

the bottom video a friend edited and thought he'd be funny. sorry about the music

the beginning quotes were the soobie talking trash saying my small block wouldnt have the balls to hang with him, and i'd need my 489 thats in the making

the long set was from this race, you can see where i grabbed the button and it came unglued

It's hard to tune the suspension on the street. The track has prep that will make a ton of difference.

Jim,

Easy for you to say as you are near a track. It sure would be nice to do it at the track. Please don't take this as me being a jerk back towards you, it's more a vent of frustration. But when they shut down all of them in central commyfornia, it aint so easy. I don't promote street racing, but if done in the right places, the only people at risk are the two drivers.

Couch,

I think you did decent out of the hole considering..

i agree. it was just some **** talking that escalated that needed to stop then and there. and we live 2 hrs from the nearest track.and test n tunes wont take off this year for another 2 weeks.but then again 2 weeks is not that long when someones safety is involved.

and yes its hard to dial in susp. on the street but it can at least give you a ballpark that way you dont get to the track and be on ice.

Re: need to work on susp. some more

I figured I might pick up some flack from my post, but it is how I feel. I am towing 165 miles this Saturday to race at a track.
The way I look at street racing is that if it was only ever the 2 drivers..then fine..what do I care if they crash and waste themselfs, but that never seems to happen. There's always atleast a girlfriend or a bud. Then there's someone with the video camera and the starter person. It's just plane not a good idea..IMO

Re: need to work on susp. some more

dont get me wrong jim. im not against you on this. it was a dumb move.and no matter how set up it was something can always go wrong.but like you seen there were no other cars present, no residence, no passengers and just the hand dropper.which a truck on slicks and an AWD gets rid of alot to be worried of, (but not all).

thats quite the tow to the track for you.cant wait to see what it turns.i should be going in a couple weeks. hoping to get my first break into the 11's

Re: need to work on susp. some more

I had two friends whose lives were destroyed by street racing. Neither was driving. One lost both legs above the knee. The other had severe brain damage and never knew who I was afterwards. Both were in their late teens, neither one made it to 50 due to their injuries.

Yes, I've been there and done it. But I have to disagree on being able to do it safely. There are no barriers to protect the bystanders, drivers and cars usually won't pass the safety checks, the road is not closed, no emergency equipment should something go wrong. IMO, it ain't worth it.

Around here the cops will put on an event every once in a while. They do it by the book and have age limits for the drivers. Lets the youth compete against each other.

Re: need to work on susp. some more

The local cops here run the street legal drags at the drag strip. They even have a camaro set up like a cop car they race. Here's a video of me racing him 1/8th mile a few years ago......warning theres is a bad word at the end of the video(from my passenger)

Re: need to work on susp. some more

Again, I don't condone street racing. It's never going to have the safety a track does. But I do everything I can do to take as much risk out of it for everyone when I do partake in it.

I wish the police and cities would put something together for us all around here. The track is 175miles out from me. Really sucks when Baylands when open was 40 miles, Halfmoon Bay was 50 miles, Belmont was 55, Beloto Park (which still exists but don't allow it) is 17 miles away, and Lagunas 1/8 is 25 miles (again don't allow it anymore)..

That's a cool video! What are you running? SPECS? Also, what tires are you running in the rear to get it to hook up? I have a 30 tall 285's and a posi and I have trouble hooking up in second let alone first.

Also, while I don't appoave of racing on the street, how you did it was acceptable as everyone knows the risks and there isn't going to be an unsuspecting driver making a left in front of you.

Before I moved to NC we would drive from LI to NJ to race at the track. I am not talking down to any of you, but I am with Jim on this one. On the track or not at all.. been there street raced, had people all of a sudden appear out of nowhere.. not worth it

its a 28 x 10 slick in the back 4.10s and a spool.hooks up fairly decent on motor alone. bottle is when it shakes it loose.

I ran some 29.5x12.5 Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro's and they worked pretty good on the street!

Re: need to work on susp. some more

ya i run a 295/50 for a street tire and they are pretty pointless to even try to hook up. but the slicks do me pretty good. on motor i cant even squak them. all stock susp. just heated coils and shorter shocks.

Street racing is safe even with the roads blocked off? Do it on the track or not at all, everyones likely done it at least once but thats all it takes for someone to die.

The one in Accokeek is down the road from me a bit. Think of what a long drive to the track is worth, or would be worth to the families of those eight people. I too have raced many times on the street, and been a spectator of many more. I am thankful that this never happened to me.

Re: need to work on susp. some more

I don't know why anybody would want to spend all this money to street race anyway. It's much easier to talk on the phone, text message, read the paper, yada, yada, yada while driving. Heck, you don't even have to be driving drunk anymore to cause an accident and kill a bunch of people.

Sure street racing is unsafe. I will gladly drop $150 for fuel and a good day at the track even though its 2.5 hrs away. I just won't let it go that no one ever mentions the other things most drivers do that are really just as or even more unsafe than a street pass on a low traffic road and are done 100,000,000 times more on any given day.

Anyways heres couple videos from our local event we got going. Only one car a a time but what the hell, no tickets for burning rubber! 1/8th mile length and we even had timers. Too bad the camera man didn't get my truck though.

Re: need to work on susp. some more

I guess what part of the problem is, that people who like to race trucks have a streak of rebel in them.
The thought of street racing(comitting a Felony) get's the juices flowing. In fact street racing is a crime(a premeditated crime). If you don't crash and/or kill someone you can end up in court.
