Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

Don't feel too bad, I started a drop, disc swap, and front end rebuild for my 65 Impala Christmas of 2013... Three states later I'm still not done :/

Keep chipping away at it, it'll get there. The truck is coming together quite well!

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I've had my 67 firebird since 2010. I spent a weekend stripping the interior out of it... nada since...

After some back and forth with my truck club and guys that have done it on this forum... I reluctantly cut up my control arms. I flat out don't have the time or $ to do the 5 lug swap like I want to right now (20" wheels/tires, 5 lug rear end rebuild, rotor swap).

I tried to make 'em look pretty too.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

Cleaned back up & painted and clearance... the wheels were at their worst when at a full lock turn, so 1/16"+ of clearance should be sufficient.

My tires are from 2006 but 15" tires are pretty cheap, so I think I will be getting new tires. I'm also looking at a set of 7" rally wheels for the front to match the back (replacing the 8" rallys in the front), the combination of drop and disc spindles pushes the track width out 3/4" on each side on 67-70 trucks, so I think I'd like to tuck the front wheels back in. The 7" rally wheels have the same BS as the 8's so I'd be tucking the fronts in an inch.

In all likelihood, it will be 2+ years now before the 5 lug swap now that the front suspension is rebuilt and the rear is still good, so the tires need to be replaced out of safety, I've pushed them too long. 9+ years in the Carolina sun 24/7 isn't good for rubber.

The last pic is an optical illusion, the wheel is at full lock and there is at least 1/2"+ of clearance from the tire.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I also bought two new matching 15x7 wheels. Even though they're supposed to have the same 4" BS as the 8" wheels, they have a tad bit more clearance around the control arm than the 8" wheels, so that's a plus. I didn't like how far the 8" wheels stuck out into the fender well.

Thanks!

After literally weeks of rain, I was finally able to get back to repairing the back window!

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I found WAY more holes than I thought there was initially. I had to repair a 3" section along the side on the PS side and about a 2 inch section on the top near the DS. I thought all those areas were good until I stripped them. I also drilled out any pitting and filled it back in. That was a long day.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

Found a few spots of surface rust under the primer when I was sanding, so I decided to strip the whole roof and epoxy it this time around. Ran out of daylight, so just around the window got done for now.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I also almost finished the repair to the hood. The trim just barely covers the repaired area.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I'm in awe of you guys that can do a suspension drop in a weekend...

I had a hell of a time getting the old U bolts out. Again, the threads were literally rusted shut. So strange for a Texas, then SC truck, especially when everything else is so clean on it. It did spend 6 years in NY with me, but it was never once driven in winter.

Anyway, they had to get cut and beat out.

And of course I couldn't install my new track bar because it would have hit the exhaust....

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

I found a good replacement for my bump stops!

I also hauled a small load of 20 cases of coke, a couple tables and a couple coolers. I ran her for 20+ miles over a couple rough roads and I never felt the back bottom out.

I also wanted a different look for the nose and CST trim and white should do it...

It also drove me nuts that I could see my A/C lines shining through the grille!

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Thanks Guys!

Slowly plugging away at it.

The trim completely hid the hood rust repair.

I repainted my inserts flat black and I repainted my grille badge red to match the wheels.
