OE DG4 mirrors vs Reproduction

A few years ago I put a set of used reproduction "DG4 style" mirrors on my truck. I do not know the exact brand but assume they are the ones that LMC and others sell.

They have always been very shaky at any speed, particularly 15+ MPH. On the highway they are actually pretty useless and are almost a distraction. I am trying to determine what route to go with mirrors while I am restoring my truck (would prefer OE DG4), but wanted some more opinions on whether this "shakiness" is typical of all repro DG4 mirrors or if mine are extra junky.

See below for 2 pictures of mine, and a picture I stole from this forum that shows real DG4s without vibration. I don't know what speed this was taken at, but they're way better than mine. The minor bracket difference is a non-issue to me, I just want them stable.

Opinions??

I have oem on the 72 . They shake a little at speed I don’t think it’s all the mirror . I think the door skin vibrates too with the wind pressure exerted on the mirror.

Did you put rubber washers between the brackets and body? I also rebuilt mine with all new nylon washers and cleaned up all the connections.

I tried them with nylon and rubber washers at the body mounds . No difference and I replaced all the nylon on the arms .

I had nylon washers on mine.

Willys_MB, are yours stable at higher speeds?

Re: OE DG4 mirrors vs Reproduction

I don't have a pair of the DG4s, but would love to have some someday for my C20. I would imagine their might be some vibration as they are larger mirrors, thus more drag in the wind at speed. My mirrors on my 1968 are very stable at speed, and I think that there is a backing plate in the door that bolts to the mirror helps with the stability. Maybe fabricating a backing plate of sorts for the bottom two legs of the mirror may help with the vibration?

Re: OE DG4 mirrors vs Reproduction

I don’t have any vibration issues at higher speeds. Mine are pretty stable. I don’t have the nuts overtightened because I need to fold the mirror arms in to get the truck into my garage. They’re stiff enough to stay out on the road, but I can still fold them in without feeling like I’m doing any damage.

Put a pair of LMC mirrors on my '69 and they shake bad also . Wish I still had the factory mirrors .

Same for my LMC mirrors, they shake badly. On mine the female threaded insert that the mirror bolts into is loose inside of the bracket and has been since new, making the mirrors heads shake badly.

Re: OE DG4 mirrors vs Reproduction

Is there a “better” quality reproduction brand for these mirrors out there?
