What does your oil pressure gauge show at idle?

Mine shows a tic above 0 when warmed up at shoots to 40 while driving. What about temp gauge mine does not ever go any higher then what is shown in picture.

As with any oil pressure problem, you should verify with a known hood, QUALITY mechanical pressure gauge. If you still retain the same low reading, you have worn camshaft, connecting rod, or crankshaft bearings.

Re: What does your oil pressure gauge show at idle?

If you have an electric oil gauge, make sure the sender is matched to the gauge. IIRC - there are 3 pressure ranges. My 75 has a mechanical and shows near max at speed and around 15~20 at idle once hot. No idea how accurate a 45+ year old gauge is.

Temp gauge behavior is normal if the OEM sender was replaced. Most aftermarket senders don't come close to matching the temp curves of the original. Grounding the sender end of the wire should give a max temp reading on the gauge. There are several threads on temp gauge - sender match ups.

What oil are you running ? My owners manual calls for 15w40 in the summer on my 85 with 30w the oil pressure is noticeably lower when it's hot.

Re: What does your oil pressure gauge show at idle?

Well the oil pressure sender I bought from Autozone said it was a 70 psi sender. I thought a sender was a sender. So I need to find a 60 psi sender to match my gauge, is this right ?
