1973 GMC Jimmy How Rare Whats It Worth

I am looking to pick up a new project and found this for sale. I have never had a Jimmy and cant find much information on them. The owner says it is all original and from the pictures it is believable (I have not been able to look at it in person yet). So anyway does anyone know where I can find information on this truck? What are the production Numbers? Whats it worth? How desirable art the Jimmy's over a blazer? I have been looking for a new project and if this is worth it I might restore it back to stock condition. Does anyone know what color this is, i found a paint chart for this year but cant tell if it is Ochre or Yellow gold.

I can't tell you anything about production numbers and such but I can say it IS rare in so far as it's overall condition and originality. There were probably less Jimmys built than Blazers. You just don't find many that old in that shape. Full carpet and woodgrain appointments are real nice. It has obviously been garage kept all these years.
A lot of us would take care of any maintenance items, shine it up and drive it as is smiling all the way.

I would not say worth more or less than a blazer. Definately a little more rare/unique. What is he asking?

Re: 1973 GMC Jimmy How Rare Whats It Worth

Very nice survivor for sure. The early trucks rusted out really bad and quickly. You found an awesome Jimmy in very nice condition by the looks of it. I'm with everyone else, clean up the maitenance issues, new tires, maybe stock silver 8inch ralley rims or factory 1980 7inch aluminum rims, shine her up and drive it.
You have found the needle in the hatstack, IMO!!!!!
Not sure on the value or production nos., but you have found a beauty. Drive the wheels off of it...LOL!!!!

Re: 1973 GMC Jimmy How Rare Whats It Worth

A 1973 GMC Jimmy is not "rare", certainly not to the point where someone will pay you stupid money for it.

If you want to talk rare, a survivor 1973 Jimmy is a lot more rare than a restored one.

These numbers I am pulling out of thin air, but let's say that Jimmy is worth $8,000 as it sits. I suspect if you restore it you will spend $20,000 turning it into a Jimmy that is worth $15,000.

Re: 1973 GMC Jimmy How Rare Whats It Worth

I found on this web site http://gtcpoci.info/GMC%20Truck%20pr...%20figures.pdf on page 6 the production numbers for 1974 was 11,883 but nothing for 1973. Thats not very many. I wonder how many are actually still around.

Fully carpet appointments? I've owned several K5's and looked at 100's more but I cannot recall a tailgate being fully carpeted like this one.
But for 3800 I believe its worth it, but keep it stock. I created a thread last month of one on ebay starting @ $26K, I don't believe their worth that much though but I think this is worth every penny..

I've never seen the tailgate carpet before either. Certainly looks to be original. Maybe it was a rare dealer add-on?

Looks like a steal for $3800

It's a steal at $3800. It looks like it has a small lift on it. Rally's and 33x12.50's would set it off nicely. I'd remove the 80's console for one from the 70's but otherwise leave it alone - that's a very nice survivor.

mirrors are wrong location and wrong style. Looks decently clean though. Carpet tailgate and then carpet or vinyl over the kickpanel lower section that should have been bare.

Are you saying the carpet is probably not original, and what do you mean by the mirrors are in the wrong location?

Re: 1973 GMC Jimmy How Rare Whats It Worth

As I said in the original post I have not yet looked at this in person. The reason for this is I am in the military and overseas at the moment, but will be coming back to the states in about two weeks. So I am in contact with the seller only by phone and email. He said it had some rust around the wheel wells but was not really that bad, so I asked if he could email some more pictures up close.

The seller also tells me that he is the second owner and has owned it for about a year and a half. The original owner had it for about 37 years and was very meticulous about everything on the vehicle, keeping detailed log books on everything done to it.

I know on the side of the truck there is an emblem that says sierra, and I can read sierra on the dash but can anyone tell me what it might read next to sierra on the dash I cant read it in the picture. Did the regular sierra package come with the full wood grain moldings.
