Re: Where are the 1 tons?

Here is my recent purchase. 1961 C30 1ton with 51000 original miles. This thing is a beast of a truck. Mirrors and rims aren't original. I'm also looking to put some wheel simulators on it. Anyone have a good source for this year of truck? Previous owner installed 17" rims.

That's a beautiful truck as it sits. Perfect! To answer your question about similators, the answer is 'no'. They won't sell them to owners of trucks that look better without them. Seriously though, you would go by the wheels and not the truck. Those need to get identified first. I bet the 19.5s looked good, too.

Here are some 1t flatbeds

Many thanks for the input. You made me pause and think! Yep, sometimes we need someone just to say it like it is! I think I'm having a bit of "chrome envy" and lost my way for a second there. Thanks for the candid (gracious) feedback. You are right....they won't sell them to me.

Appreciate you on many levels

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

LOL. I guess you picked up on my subtlety somewhere in there. Hey, it's just input. In the end it's your truck to do as you like. Sure looks sharp as it sits, though.

Yep...read you loud and clear! Needed that input though. I find I can get way out ahead of myself too quickly! I’ll leave it as is. As I said earlier, appreciate the input. Will reach out to you again for some sage advice.

Thanks...Steph

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

I wish I could have kept the '60 C40 I had. It was cool for being different but if it was a short C30 I would have kept it.

I'm pretty sure the wheels were black on dual wheels back then. So the white wheels are actually a dress-up or way of trimming out the truck already. Work trucks were done up using paint as much as with bright work years ago. That front end is so sharp and such a feature of that truck and the wheels help set it off, while keeping a factory stock look even though it isn't. I like that factory bed on there for a full factory look

Some fine 73-80s

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

Seen.one
Like the one in the middle in trucking magazine. It was a shirtbed truck though , seem to remember from the pickup is that chevrolet never made a shortbed dually so the guy put the whole running gear of a one ton dually under a half ton chassis and mounted the dually tubs and fenders to the shortbed

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

I meant the shorter cab & chassis wheelbase. The truck I had was 157" with a 12' steel flatbed. In these years the C40 had the 10-30 sheet metal with the HO110 10-lug rear/big 5-lug front IFS. A short WB dump body would be great with a skid loader/mini-excavator

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

I just went through. Many pictures no longer show. This was the '95 K3500 SRW work truck I built. It might not show, but lots of custom work in that truck. Not much that wasn't took apart and put back together on that one.

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

Quick question on the square body dually's: are there any differences in the rear suspension between the pickup version and the flatbed version? Reason I ask is the pickups that come up for sale often times seem to be in better shape than flatbeds. If they're the same truck suspension-wise\load carrying capacity it would make sense to buy a nice pickup, ditch the pickup bed and install a flatbed on it.

A cut and paste:

Chassis cab rear dually axle is 8" narrower. Frame is 34" wide verses the "standard" 42" wide (pu). Narrower frame allows the narrower axle to fit without rubbing springs. Distance from rear of cab to center of rear axle is 4" longer.

The 34" frame rails are a standard to the industry for 3rd party products such as (e.g.) flatbeds and utility boxes. But they do make 3rd party products to fit 42" Dually P/U frames also.

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

Special K, the heater works great and I like cold weather but this truck will never see salt again. We had a tiny bit of snow for Halloween but thankfully the city didn’t have to treat the streets. Its 50 today so I got some work done on the bed

Re: Where are the 1 tons?

Yeah, you guys got this cold sooner. I thought you meant working on it, not driving. Mine sits out salt season, too. The next polar air dip later this week is supposed to bring rain/snow mix. I am sure they will treat the roads here. I got bummed when I heard that. Last I got to use the truck till first week of Jan.
