Carb linkage

I am installing an Edelbrock 1406 on my 350.

First question: All I have coming from the gas pedal is the bent steel linkage with two holes in it that looks something like this:

What is a good cheap (can be non-stock) way of connecting this to the linkage ball on the carb throttle lever?

Second question: What is a good solution for ensuring proper throttle return? As stock, I don't think the carb's internal spring is enough. Is there a basic kit that is often suitable?

Re: Carb linkage

I just bought this kit from Jegs for my '68: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15795/10002/-1

It looks like it's going to work really well for mine but I just swapped in a big block and it's also got a holley. You would probably want to double check the length is going to work for yours.

When I got it, it had a custom bent and welded piece of all thread connecting the carb. It actually worked pretty well, just looked horrible and I was a little worried about the booger welds holding up.

Re: Carb linkage

That one from Jeg's looks nice, and easy to install. I've got a 1405 carb in my '68. I made the throttle linkage out of 1/4" steel rod I got from Ace Hardware. I bent it at 90 degrees in the back and used a clip that's the style you find in a Dorman 41016 assortment to attach it. I cut 1/4-28 threads on the front end with a die so I could attach a ball socket. I believe I got it at Napa.

I got the throttle return springs from the Dorman/Help section at Napa and made a bracket out of sheet metal to attach it to my transmission cable bracket. You can buy spring brackets that attach to one of the intake manifold bolts.

Re: Carb linkage

Get a universal throttle cable kit and a 4150 throttle return spring bracket kit. Follow the instructions in the cable kit and you'll be good to go. You can probably get away with the correct throttle cable for these trucks and a throttle cable bracket.

Using a throttle cable would require converting to a 71-72 style accelerator pedal that would support it. In '68, these trucks had a throttle linkage.

Re: Carb linkage

I found this kit handy when fiddling with my truck as I went from cleaning up the linkage on a sketchy Rochester and then later installing a new Holley: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

EDIT WITH MORE DETAIL: If I remember right, the "stock" linkage (hard to know if it was original, but kind of looked it) throttle ball receiver and carb throttle ball diameters weren't playing nice together. This kit fixed it.
