Re: Gas Prices?

Can't even begin to imagine $7 gas per gallon. And I know from living in Cal. long ago that you folks can have some pretty lengthy commutes to work and back home. Before I retired my round trip to and from was right at 75 miles. Many times 6 & 7 days at a time for weeks straight, luckily no mile long free way traffic jams as I suspect you have from time to time. 3,000 oil changes came pretty regular for me but the worst was driving in the snow and black ice that comes up quick.

I live in a small town in far northern California. Before I retired, my commute was...... well, some days I walked to work.

Re: Gas Prices?

I’m lucky my commute is only 3.2 miles each way, because my truck gets 11 mpg.

My round trip was 50 miles. And it was pure torture with the traffic. It was like going into battle with all the idiots on the road every morning and every night.

Just imagine how long it takes to go 50 miles in traffic staring at brake lights.

That was one of the many reasons that I retired early.

Re: Gas Prices?

I saw the place I bought gas last week at $4.09.9 now has it at $4.03.9. But on Wed I went to my sister's about 100 miles away in VA. Gas is always much cheaper there. I got regular for $3.69.9. Made the trip a lot less expensive.

Re: Gas Prices?

There is something seriously wrong when right here in the same country with the same oil companies were can have a better than 80% difference in price from one area to another. $6.06.9 vs $3.39.9 for the same product.

"OPEC+ is set to raise oil output by a tiny 100,000 barrels per day in what analysts described as an insult to U.S. President Joe Biden after his trip to Saudi Arabia last month to persuade OPEC’s leader to pump more to help the U.S. and global economy."

Seems to be dropping about $.10 a day around here. It was $3.49 yesterday and down to $3.39 today.
Diesel just doesn't seem to move though?

CA and others have huge taxes on their fuel sales… that’s a pretty big start on the answer to that equation. I saw an article not too long ago that said that taxes and fees alone are at least $1.18 of the CA price. I’m sure other large cities and some states aren’t far off from that. Several of the southeast states have low fuel taxes, which helps on the low end of the spectrum. Obviously there’s gonna be other variables but that’s a pretty big swing right there. The costs to haul crude and the finished products and to refine are different in different parts of the country too which gets passed along.

California has the highest gas tax in the nation. Lucky me.

What surprised me is Pennsylvania was the second highest. Isn't Pennsylvania an oil state? (think Pennzoil).
