Re: Gas Prices?

Went to tractor supply and bought me a pellet stove with all the needed stuff and will be going back to get 3 tons of pellets that should last all the way thru the season and will have less into all of it than what they want for 600 gallons of oil in the house. I typically burn 7-900 gallons a year at the house. Now I only need turn it on for additional hot water when needed. I have an electric HWH I normally use during the summer instead of running the boiler. Hope to get the stove installed tomorrow.

Next year should be about $900 all in for heating costs since the stove will already be paid for

The one I got from Tractor Supply heats up to 2500 sq ft and was $1300. Add in the floor pan and the exhaust kit and total was just shy of $1700. I installed it myself in a couple hours tops. Hardwood pellets are $299 per ton right now. I just bought 10 bags to get started with but will be going tomorrow to pick up 3 tons before they get in short supply. I think by the 40lb bag they are around $6.29.
It reminds me a lot of the old wood stove, without a lot of the hard work. I liked being able to go thru the wall instead of the roof for the exhaust since it is on the front wall of the house.

Re: Gas Prices?

We've had two significant price reductions for gas in the past couple weeks. Currently $5.919 -- finally under $6, woohoo! I have no idea what kerosene is going for, but should find out in a month or so, when I'll get around 120 gallons. Should last close to two years -- we just use it for supplemental heating. Main heat source is wood, and the woodshed is full this year.

Re: Gas Prices?

Ours dropped this week to $2.99, again. Diesel is still holding at $4.50 +
News media being what it is, is there any truth to the reports of there being only a 25 day supply of diesel? I haven't heard anybody complaining about it if there is. A diesel shortage can paralyze the country.

Re: Gas Prices?

"U.S. inventory stood at 106.2 million barrels of distillate, which include heating oil and diesel fuel, in the week ended Oct. 14, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. That’s about 20% below the five-year average and equates to about a 26-day supply." from https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...h/10591822002/ source https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/weekly/distillate.php

Re: Gas Prices?

Looking for gas the other day, there were two stations on opposite corners. One was selling regular for $5.90.9 a gallon, the other, $5.00.9. That's right, $.90 a gallon cheaper.

Well, the sky is always falling, so I don't pay much attention to that.

But (single T) seriously, what happened? I assume the recent drop was due to some more petroleum reserve being released. That wouldn't suddenly cause a spike upward after a few days.

Unless a few days is all it takes for the SPR oil to be used up, and no longer make any difference.

Re: Gas Prices?

I'm ready to play some other game.

I've noticed more recently that the virtually unified pricing has dissolved a bit. I'd say about 25% of the stations are higher (mostly) or a few lower priced. Still pretty consistent all around
