What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I’m talking take out burgers. Not that slice of heaven that you grill up at home.

Mine.

#1 the original Tommy’s double chili cheese burger. I believe they are only in California. These burgers are probably the biggest mess that you could stick in your face unless you were kissing my ex wife. But they are soooo good, unlike my ex wife.

#2 Bob’s Big Boy double decker. Also an original only in California. The Big Mac was basically kind of a copy. I still like my Big Mac’s but Bob’s is the winner. They’re way better.

#3 In N Out Double Double Animal style. If you’ve never had In N Out or if you have. This is the one. With some hot peppers (You have to ask for those). And a side of Animal Fries you will be in a food coma.

Now it goes downhill but this is what I like.

#4 Pup N Taco Taco Burgers. While not really a burger, more like a Sloppy Joe they are made like burgers with lettuce, Thousand Island and pickles cheese and taco seasoned ground beef. Unusual and messy but really good.
Pup N Taco is long gone. It was bought out by Taco Bell who immediately closed them all down and replaced them with Taco Bells. But I can pretty much duplicate the Taco Burgers. That’s all I can do.

#5 AM/PM cheeseburgers. These are terrible burgers. I don’t know what kind of meat is in them or if it really is meat. AM/PM is a gas station. But they do one thing right. They let you build your own burger with plenty of stuff to do it and suddenly that mess under the heat lamp is pretty darn good.

Kind of a crazy list. Bound to give you cardiac arrest. This is not health food folks. But it’s good stuff. I know some of this stuff is regional but there are plenty of copycat recipes on YouTube and these are worth a try. Except AM/PM. I don't think you could recreate that.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Well Paul,, mine ARE #1..just pulled deer burgers , stuffed backstrap, and some chicken breasts off the grill..

It's really hard to get a decent burger at takeout..
1 5 Guys is good, but way overpriced
2 Checkers is decent
3 Burger King used to be good, quality has fallen off
4 Hardest is decent
5 Dairy Queen decent

Then every other burger joint alive ..
And whatever it is McDonald's calls a burger is dead last

Locally we have Willy burgers, C.F. Penn, Nesmiths burgers.. all these are deep fried burgers

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Sorry, I avoid take out burgers altogether. Since I'm supposed to limit saturated fats, like red meat, I eat it about 2 to 3 times a month. When I do, it's steak or lamb. We had a roast leg of lamb off the grill last week. I think that I'm due for a steak. I have a runny nose atm. I'll check for c19 in a bit here, and if negative, the son's going to drive us to CostCo and I'm picking up some filet mignon. It's been months since I've had a filet.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Well I am a Californian and I agree in the order with 1-2-and 3. In fact had a double double just the other day. I wish there was a Tommys in the Sacramento region. I have to wait until I travel down to So. Cal either in Van Nuys or Corona. Haven't had a Bob's Big Boy in probably 30 years, but they were sure yummy. Not a fan of the In and Out fries though. Damn, now I'm craving a Tommys with chili

5 guys - I grew up in northern VA, not too far from where the original handful of restaurants are located. Been eating there since the mid 90’s at least

Blake’s lottaburger- the best chain in NM. Lotta combo with cheese, bacon and green chile is the only way to go.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I’ve always liked Burger King Whoppers. Wendy’s is good too. Sonic used to be good, but not so much anymore. Just built a brand new Whataburger in the town about 30 miles away…..wifey & I have made the trip over. Those Dr. Pepper shakes are fantastic!!! DQ has good burgers too.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

We have a local chain called JCW's. I can never finish a meal there, because the burgers are huge and the "mini" shakes are enormous. Their burgers are among the best I've ever eaten, way better than In-N-Out or any of the national chains. They're also more expensive...

I find that any hamburger joint independently owned and not a chain or franchise will have an awesome burger…or they wouldn’t be in business.

Edit:

1. George’s
2. Krazy Greek
3. Johnny’s
4. Original Lucky Greek
5. Johnny’s (different Johnny than listed above)

We used to go to this dive bar in LaVerne called Nicks. You wouldn't think that they would have such great burgers but they did.

Mc Donalds is good with me. Probably because I grew up on it. Same with Burger King. Carl's Jr. went downhill when Hardees bought it and they joined the cheap burger wars. The price went down but so did the quality.

Jack in the Box has those the little cheeseburgers. They aren't even on the menu anymore but you can still get one. Not much a burger but with extra "secret' sauce they are tasty. When I was a teenager they had the Bonus Jack but it went away. A few years ago they brought it back but it wasn't the same. Same with the Jumbo Jack. It aint what it was.

One thing I can say about Burger King is that they never changed the Whopper. It's still the same. Maybe not the best but it's still pretty good.

Another thing I like but it's not quite a burger. Kinda sorta...Maybe... is Arbys.
When I was about 16 my girlfriend worked at Arbys and she would set me up with some monster sandwiches. They were goood!!

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I rarely ever eat a burger when out when it's so easy to make them so good, any way you're in the mood for, from locally raised and butchered beef.

We have a Five Guys in town and those burgers taste great. But I think I ate there twice because I spent as much for two burgers and fries (no drinks) as what a good sit-down dinner would have cost in a decent restaurant. I rarely ever eat out or buy take out. It's gotten so expensive. You really pay the price for preparation these days. I can eat for days at home off what it cost to eat out, and be in control of the quality of ingredients

The problem with Five Guys and most any other burgers that are really good big and juicy, you need a roll to stand up to the task. I hate paying all that money for a fancy burger and have to woof it down before it disintegrates in my hand. Once you pick it up you can't put it back down. No thanks. If you can't find better rolls, maybe make up two patties out of that meat and make two sandwiches I can eat!

The best burgers of all times are "Bar Burgers". Can't tell you the last time I was in a bar, but I have had my best burgers served at a bar. Eateries like Five Guys are trying to catch up but there's just none better (except home made)

Another favorite is a burger at an outdoor party. Who knows where they were bought, probably frozen, no special individual attention given, cooked in mass. Ever so often you walk over, grab a roll, a burger, squirt some mustard on, and WOOF! Gone. Ready for more beer

five guys has really grown on me, one thing I can say is that you can go to three different five guys or in and outs and they will all taste different despite they claim they are a franchise, or at least that's the quality control we get these days in California

Another really good one that I like when I’m on the east coast is Cook Out. They are based in NC but have migrated up into Virginia, and have really good cheap food. The burgers are quite good for what you pay for them.

Yeah, Cook Out

I need to Edit my list now

We have a Cook Out .
The What a Burger is across the street,

It won't affect them much.
Because the price and the long Waiting time.
And because What a Burger is still somewhat new to the area.

Same here. All we have is Burger King and a couple local overpriced joints that are marginal at best.
But when I was working I was on the road a lot and ate a lot of fast food because I didn't have a lot of time I never paid any attention to them at the time but now that I can't get them without driving an hour each way I miss it.
I've never had a Whataburger. I've heard that they are good. I had a Fatburger and it was really good but it gave me some nasty heartburn. Maybe it was just my arteries clogging. After all they don't call it Fatburger for no reason.

Take out food ... BLEH ! EEWWW ! Strange prepackaged food made by even stranger people tossed in a bag by someone who probably hasn't washed their grubby paws all day ! Just to eat in your car/truck driving down the road . Doesn't anyone cook at home anymore ? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit just thinking about that !

I'm always down for a good cheap burger. that's why AM/PM made my list. Like I said they were made with questionable meat and were sitting under heat lamps but they had this salad bar looking thing with just about every condiment that you can imagine. I would "customize' them and load those burgers up to the point where I could barely get them back in the bag. And they were about a buck each. I think they were $1.29. That and a 44oz. soda for about the same price. 3 buck lunch.

Hell yea!! Another DC area favorite of mine is Roy Rogers. The 1/4 pounder topped with ham and cheese is so damn good. They’ve got the salad bar setup too where you build it the way you want, similar to what you are talking about, fuddruckers is like that too.

Yeah, it's a Burger.

I was at the chicken place a long while back and watch them pick one of the wrapped biscuits up out of the floor and put it back in the rack.

The new will soon wear off.
