Board and card games for two

When I was a kid it seems like we were always playing cards and board games. Crazy 8’s, Battleship, cribbage … What are some decent card or board games for two more in the adult realm?

Cribbage and backgammon are a couple. Winters coming and trying to come up with entertainment that isn’t sitting in front of the TV zoning out

Chess is a good game for intellectuals. Monopoly was and still is a favorite game but it can magically cause even the strongest friendships to crumble lol.

Personally I use the winter months to pursue indoor hobbies like I found painting very relaxing as is leather work. Both are very rewarding and dont cost much to get into

In the adult realm ? A bottle of Jack ls the precursor to a spirited game of strip poker . Just because your old doesn't mean you can't act like your 20 something . if your winning you won't be zonning out in front of the TV

My friend is as about as far from an intellectual as you can get but he will whoop your fanny at chess. He doesn't even pronounce the name chess correctly. He calls it chest.

I figured this would be the first comment ha!

As far as chess goes, it might be intellectual, but I never found it fun.

Cribbage is an old standby from my youth. I play it on my laptop. That and computer wordle, sudoku and scrabble. I also do wood carving, but that's pretty solitary. My wife watches violent stuff like "24" a lot. I think that she may be plotting something. I watch pretty much no TV.

Re: Board and card games for two

I never played cribbage till my early 20s. The same friend that taught me that got me going on dominos. That made me think of scrabble.

I came to realize at some point years ago that I'm not a sit down play a game kind of guy. I have no desire to play cards or board games and such. If I do, it's to go along with others. I don't suffer through it, I can enjoy myself, but I'm not moved to do it and if it is suggested I'd still be coming up with other ideas.

If you like word games there's always Scrabble. Farkle is a fun dice game that tests how much risk you're willing to take.

Re: Board and card games for two

I used to play 500 Rummy with my girlfriend and her parents. Her dad loved to play Rummy.
I remember once when I was a teenager. I was losing and got yet another bad hand and when I saw it I yelled the "F' word at the top of my lungs...Then realized that I was sitting in front of her parents. Whoops.

They just stared at me at first. Then my girlfriend started laughing at me and then they all did. I was relieved. They were all cracking up at my stupidity.

I didn't know it was called Farkle. I thought it was called "Marriage'.

Although that's a good name for it. I got Farkled a couple times rolling those dice.

Some of the games we play as a couple farkle, sequence, domino war. Some of the games with more farkle flip, faze ten, double 12 dominoes, and dutch blitz. A good time win or lose with my better half, the grandkids, or friends.

I have a story of a hot blonde and a strip poker game. But I don't think that I should tell it here. But I'll never forget it. She was really good looking and completely crazy. Nuff said.

Re: Board and card games for two

Not exactly a board game ,,but it is fun for two ( either at the same time or when ever you get the urge to put a piece in or two ,,Ither of you ) PICTURE PUZZLES and you can find them cheap at a lot of places second hand or exchange them with other friends or relatives..
If you have one on a table you pass by regularly ,,you will find it hard to pass by without putting in a piece of a puzzle before going on with what ever you were intent on doing .. believe me I know !!

We actually do have a bingo cage and checkers. We have a closet full of games we played with the kids and now the grand kids.

Looking for some new ideas and things we've forgotten over time. Told my honey about whats been mentioned so far ... she's taking notes =)

Speaking of puzzles, my mom always had puzzles going. I remember when my buddies would stop by the puzzles would be like magnets to them haha!

My mother always did crossword puzzles and she was good at them. I'd look at them and think WTF?

I think that she was the only person that I can think of that could finish them. And it would take her all of 20 minutes to do so.

She was smart. I couldn't get away with anything. I tried. But no dice. Mom knew what I was up to. I would get "The Look'.

I did get away with a little.

I would play more games with my wife but she is such a sore loser. You almost don't want to win because she will get mad.

Re: Board and card games for two

Like stated Farkel is a good simple dice game we play often. We've also gotten into Catan with family game night with the in-laws, there is a two person version. Also, Ticket to Ride is a fun board game. Can be played with 2-5 and there's various expansion packs and versions to keep you on your toes.

Re: Board and card games for two

We went online and grabbed the rules and score pad PDF's of Farkle and printed them out.

Went of to the SIL's and her husbands place and played Farkle with them, they hadnt heard of it either.

Its hard to get the Yahtzee mode of scoring out of your head since its somewhat similar. Definitely a do-over game. Strategy didnt really start to sink in till the end of the game.

Thanks to you fellas that tossed Farkle out there.
