Block and suffix codes

The block is a 3970010 which I know is a 350 and has an 84 stamped close to that. The only question I have is that the only suffix code stamped on the front deck I can tell is 1K09800. Any ideas on that? The vin shows the truck to have came w/ a 305 so I'm wondering if its a crate motor

Re: Block and suffix codes

not sure about crate but
I've been told it's a desired "nickel block"
i think mine was from a pre 78 - 3/4 ton
but yes it's a 4 bolt

Re: Block and suffix codes

SBC 3970010 can be 302 or 350 blocks and came in 2 & 4 bolt mains. If you ever find a 010 block with DZ in the suffix that is a 69 Z28 302 block. On your suffix, the K meens Canada plant. The 09 meens September. The rest of the suffix stumped me, cant figure it out.

Re: Block and suffix codes

the only way to know for sure without taking the pan off is to look at the stamping on it, on big blocks it in the front by the bottom of the drivers side head, not sure where to small blocks is
