LOW A D,

I don't think it's Ebay, Amazon, etc., I think now that with the Covid-19 pandemic is going on a whole lot more people are ordering online now and it's just backing everything up. This may become the normal.

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

Searching net for more info about D-shaped molding came across Trim-Lok sold on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Trim-Lok-Rubb...00NL4AWTQ?th=1

American made so maybe delivery might be quicker. Slightly more expensive, minimum length 25' but 12 different sizes. Read on Trim-Lok's site that best function when molding achieves 40% compression when in use.

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

what a great write up, outstanding tips, and proper result! thank you for doing this

one question I have is, did you remove the metal strip on the cab that held the original rubber molding, and then just glued on the new smaller D shaped strip to the cab? and if so how did you remove it?

please and thank you

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

Only took about a month but my door seals came in later yesterday. This morning I cleaned the DS door and applied the larger "D" shaped seal on the door. I was hoping to shut the door and find no resistance as the smaller seal for the cab has not been applied yet. What I found was the door is very tight and will close if I slam it hard. I had to remove the little rubber door stop off the striker plate. Well.....at least the door did shut this time vs the SoftSeal door seals. I'm not sure why my doors are so tight. It has me baffled.

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

Should the bottom seal on the door be applied to the very bottom ledge or to the wall facing the cab? I have mine on the wall facing the cab.

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

I tried the bottom seal in both areas and ended up leaving it on the bottom ledge. I adjusted the striker plate and got the door closing pretty good now. The door is sticking out a little but it was a good trade off for having the seals in place.

if you are talking about the metal strip that holds the original windlace in place, yes, i removed it. I just took a sharp chisel and knocked the spot welds off

Glad you finally got your weatherstrip! Does your door close nicely without any weatherstrip? You must have very tight cab to door gaps! Have you tried just putting the smaller weatherstrip on?

I put mine on the wall facing the cab, that seemed to work best for me

Yeah....my gaps are pretty tight. I put the bigger seal on the door on the passengers side and it was about the same closing the door without the seal. No adjustment to the striker plate was needed. On the drivers side I had to remove the small rubber door stop on the striker plate and adjust the striker plate out (away from the cab) to get the door to close better. No way will the smaller seals work. I don't think either door would shut.

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

Well....at 60+ mph the drivers side door is pretty quite with no wind noise. On the passengers side my wife said there was just a little wind noise and a little air coming in near the bottom rear corner of the door but she said it is so much better than before the seals were put on. I'll have to check into that but I really like how these door seals helped with the wind noise. We are all good in the hood ☺

Re: Installing door weather strip on '51 Chevrolet

This morning I put a strip of the smaller "D" shapes seal on the passengers side along the bottom of the cab. It is now seal against seal. That stopped all the wind noise. I am very pleased with how this turned out. If for some reason it comes loose I'll just replace it as it was super cheap. Only time will tell.

Good idea on the seal to seal. Where did you get you “D” shaped seals?

The seals look really clean how you have them. Time for some new floor mats!
