Do i need The Wheel Bearing Washer With The Tab In It Or Will a Flat washer be okay? Thanks

I'm thinking you don't want that washer spinning with the bearing. But not sure though.

That's exactly why the washers have the tab, so they won't spin. You do NOT want them spinning. You can probably find them in the HELP! isle of a well stocked parts store.

I didn't think tab was as effective at cleaning as coca cola.

I think just a basic (flat) washer to clean the bearings is OK.

I thought the thread was about "washing" bearings, too, until I read it and saw this is about the washer. Nothing cleans like Coke. Diet soda is a wimpy washer thang

I think it is a holdover from days gone by. If you have a cotter pin on the castellated nut (or even the sheet metal restraint on the nut), how is it going to change the bearing preload?

I see the tabbed washer as a way to assure the washer and inner race can't spin together. Ideally that won't happen. But old hard grease and a worn bearing could possibly create that situation where the inner race on the spindle is what is turning. It's always best to go with how these well designed trucks were built in this case.

You're probably right. Also, the manufacturers wouldn't use it if they didn't have to, since it costs more than a regular washer.

And they have to carve a groove in the spindle which costs more money and at least somewhat weakens the spindle. They wouldn't use the tabbed washers if they didn't feel it served a purpose.
