In 1960, GM gave all three Mercury 7 astronauts—Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, and Chuck Yeager—brand new Corvettes as a publicity stunt.

Thats another varies by where you live. Here in Ontario it is legal to pass on a solid yellow line IF you have clear line of sight. Remeber it is IF you have clear line of sight to safly pass.
More often than not when they repave secondary roadways they just stripe a single solid yellow the entire length and don't bother remarking the hashes. Guess its somehow cheaper or faster to get done that way. So if you need to pass, pass if you can see down the road cause you sure won't like it if you are waiting for a hash line to appear as it won't for miles.

Some ag facts. Most everyone probably knows when you cross a male donkey and a female horse you get a mule. But when you cross a male horse and a female donkey you get a hinny. Both will be sterile. Twin calves born to a cow will be fertile if they are the same sex but if born a bull and a heifer the heifer will be sterile. She is called a free martin.

I would think that GM enthusiasts (like those around here) would know this, but it was a long time ago, so maybe not?

The first letter of all of the GM X-body cars spells NOVA
Nova- Chevrolet
Omega- Oldsmobile
Ventura- Pontiac
Apollo- Buick

I don't use an electric can opener and I learned a flawless way to open cans where you always get the whole lid off clean every time. Take the can opener and turn it a quarter turn so it is cutting into the side under the lid and not the top. BINGO!

So it's only ok to pass when you don't have a clear line of sight if the road is marked with hashes???? This makes absolutely no sense . Why mark the roads? The roads are marked with dashes to allow passing ONLY where there is a clear line of sight. All other areas have a double solid line.

Here's the way to identify pine species beyond type of needle. The needles grow in clusters at their base. White pine will have 5 to a cluster, for instance, and another pine you would think is a white pine might only have 2. Pitch pine has 3 and Virginia has 2 but shorter. You need a guide of course

Your farmhouse's red exterior is probably paying homage to an old-fashioned tradition.

It's not a coincidence that barns and many farmhouses are painted red.

"Farmers didn't have a lot of money to buy paint, and so they started to experiment with what they had on hand: skimmed milk, lime, and red iron oxide—also known as rust,"

Not sure if it's still acceptable to do so but in Texas people will steer over to the shoulder of the road to allow traffic to pass without leaving the right lane.

Maybe some Texans can chime in and confirm this.

I'm curious if they still do that too.

My first job involved a lot of travel and I got to meet people from all over the country. One guy from Missouri had a Suburban and a travel trailer. He was dumbstruck when Texans pulled over to let other traffic pass. He just could not believe they would do such a thing, thought they were crazy. I said it sounded like they are courteous. I could picture him trundling along with a line of frustrated Texans stacking up behind him.

I still see it if (and do it) if you get waaayyyyy out of the big cities into rural Texas. Folks would also use the shoulder to accelerate up to speed before merging into the lane, or pull off to the shoulder to make right turns.

That is a little misleading though. While I suppose that someone has been killed directly by a deer (gored or maybe kicked?) I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of those deaths are from vehicle crashes, either from a direct strike or running off of the road to avoid them.

I always said statistics never tell the true story. They tell their own story. How many horses killed people vs injuries from accidents that occurred from riding one?

I pull over on the shoulder to let faster moving traffic by me unless the person behind me is tail-gaiting me. I usually do the speed limit but some folks are just more of a hurry to get where they are going.

I have seen more than a few cars lately with California license plates on the road and those folks drive too aggressively...

I still do here in Tn , Especially in C-10 hunting season ( Fall , when all the leaves are gone and you can see in back yards ) We do those other crazy things like

driving the speed limit
using blinkers
waving to our neighbors
leaving space between cars on the highway

You know all those crazy things ...
