Drive not engaging

Hi guys, my trucks up and running, sorta, still have some kinks to work out like brakes and an oil leak and a thermostat leak but none the less it's running. Anyways. It was completely out of ATF so I filled the transmission up with that and went to put it in drive to no avail. It sometimes kicks in but it's not spinning the driveshaft. Reverse works and everything. Just Drive, L2, and L1 aren't working. The truck sat for years. Ideas? Solutions?

Thanks

Re: Drive not engaging

Possibly still low on fluid..... My TH350 had a slow leak and if it was down just 1/2 quart, it would sometimes slip (briefly not engage) going forward from a stop.

Re: Drive not engaging

Fluid is full. My guess is it's the clutch for the drive gears, is that pretty accurate?

Re: Drive not engaging

Most likely clutches. Very high probability the tranny will need a rebuild.

Re: Drive not engaging

I had issues with the internal shift linkage on my TH350. I had to drop the pan and tighten one bolt. Fixed

Re: Drive not engaging

If I remember correctly, the TH350 uses the same clutch pack for 1st and reverse so I would look a the linkage. It could also be the forward clutch pack. Since it has set for a while you might could try a seal softener first.
