Cab corner, rocker panel seam? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just wanted to see what all you guys have been doing with this seam. I know some are welding it shut and others just leave it alone. I personal like the look of this seam. The reason I am asking is because I plan on leaving it visable. If you leave it are you guys putting any sealer on the back side of the pinch weld to seal of the inside or just leaving it alone? I know it would be hard to get in there and seal/caulk it.

I just want to see what all you guys have done and see what ideas any of you have. Since there are some very inovative people on this board!

Leave the seam, I dont think I would even seall it up. Not sure of your weather, but up hear I could see that being a huge issue with a little moisture being stuck behind the seam.

seal it or you will be doing it again. They were sealed from factory.

run the seam sealer across the top of your rocker and down the seam of the rocker/cab. all the way so moisture doesn't go behind the rocker.

and outside.

They were sealed as stated from the factory and so was the cab corner. Not very well they just kind of dumped the sealer in real sloppy. Since most people aren't treating these trucks like they use to. If you do either way should be Ok. If you weld it up it can still get corrosion from under. I personally just prefer treating the metal and just using seam sealer. Welding them up looks like it was filled in with bondo. Spray them on the inside with some panel wax

OK, great thanks guys for your comments. I have already sprayed everything to death with primer/paint on the inside. The other thing that I remind myself of, is that the truck is not going to be driven in snow/salt and off road anymore either. I know rain and wash water will get in but will be in the heated garage to hopefully help dry it out. Also it will be taken care of a lot better than it was in its first life.

As stated before, seal it from the outside, and if the door is off you can spray 3m undercoat or similar in through the hole all the way back. Harold

seal it other wise it will rust out use seam selear before you prime it or weld it up and smooth it out thats what i did on mine

I don't know if I would weld up the seam, but if you wanted to run a little urethane sealer in the crack that would be fine.

We have the wax stuff where I work (MB Littleton), but it's Mercedes so I bet it's expensive.
I think all the other Euro rides use it, maybe try VW??
It does stay put in the body voids.

The Eastwood Company carries the wax material and the guns to apply it (called Heavy Duty Anti Rust). Another wax material you might consider is LPS3 that normally can be found in a aerosol can.

I had problems with the lower rear corner of the rocker panel fitting and had to cut it back to fit and it was just easer to weld it up for me. You can see some of the unusual fitting of my rocker panel on my build thread.

If you want to use the product Gm uses its

Any wurth dealer sells it. We do. Any AUto Paint supply house SHOULD no what it is.

Definitely seal it up. Been there and replaced that on a truck that was not done properly. NAPA has the spray on sealers and bedliner kits that work too if you can't find anyone else.

Doing some research and dragging this thread of form the past, but I am getting ready to do the rockers and have this same question. How do you seal that seam from the outside without covering / smoothing out that seam.

Also what is the best way to do the front seam? I know that one is a little less cosmetic but still would like to do it correctly.
