Grill swap

The pic is what I'm wanting to change to but has anyone swapped grills from a 88 to a 85? Is it just the grill or does the radiator support have to be changed? Also does the wiring have to be changed for the lights?

Re: Grill swap

Unfortunately, you're looking at way more than just a grille swap, the core supports are different too. That's an '89-91 grille/core support. If you want the '85-88 style grille, you'll need the '85-88 core support, headlight buckets, headlights and maybe the front wiring harness too.

Re: Grill swap

5 years ago or so I bought a 1984 C10 with a lightly smashed front end. The u pull junk yard near me had a 1990 Suburban. So I used it to fix the truck. From what I remember I pulled the complete front core support (lights, grille) and the headlight harness from the donor Suburban.

I wish you were closer.
I have that style (89-91 blazer/Suburban) core support and headlights.
Shipping would kill the deal for sure.

Re: Grill swap

Just did the same to my 84 GMC. Original core support was bad under both batteries, and had a newer style in the shed for several years.

Just my luck lol.

So basically I need:
89-91 Radiator support
Headlight buckets
Grill pieces
HL harness.

Will the 89-91 radiator support fit right in or will you have to make some adjustments. I want to put the same grill on my 84?

Re: Grill swap

I put a 90 suburban on my 83. need core support. will bolt right in. would be helpful to have harness. at least for the lights connectors, not sure if its a must, i had complete suburban so I switched everything over.

Ahh. Well, same thing just backwards. Gotta have the core support and everything. If you could find a parts truck/one in a junkyard, that'd be the most cost effective way

This is my first project and I don’t want to order stuff and have something missing. For the harness y’all said you need at least the light connectors. Would I just order light connectors for 90 suburban? Thanks

I'm starting on my 85 this week after scoring a 89 suburban rad support with the harness.
