5/7 lowering kit tire help

Just picked up 59,000 mile original swb and ordered a 5/7 syndicate series drop kit from switch and was wondering if anyone is running this and what tire size you’re running or if you guys can help me decide on a front tire size. Switch recommends a 27” tall tire. Iv been searching on here all week and see some people are getting away with a 245/40r20. Front wheels I bought are 20x8 with 4.5BS. Can’t decide between a 245/40 at 27.7 tail or a 255/35 at 27 tall. Want to keep the inner fender on

I'd prefer as tall a sidewall as possible so the 245/40 would be my choice. But, like you mentioned, it will likely buzz the top of the inner wheel tub. The front's in this pic were 255/40's so 28" tall. They were on there for one night for a local cruise. I barely made it down my alley. Any bump or dip over 5mph, they buzzed.

I would do taller inner tubs before I'd run 255/35's though. Short sidewalls just don't work as well visually on these trucks in my honest opinion.....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: 5/7 lowering kit tire help

Well got the lowering kit on. Front only lowered 4 inches and the rear 7 so had to pull the rear shackles off and put the stock ones back on. May still pull the front springs out and cut them to bring the front down another inch but I’m gonna give it a few weeks to see if the front settles at all. Went with 245/40 in the front, thanks for the pic and info on that scoti.

Ride is great. It still had the factory shocks on it before it was lowered and they were obviously shot so this feels like a big upgrade in ride and handling.

Scoti - do you have more info on that wheel set up - I agree I'm not a fan of the thin sidewalls on our trucks - probably looks even more off on a stepside. Are the rims Torque Thursts in Grey? I've been looking at the same ones or possibly the dark chrome.

They were Coys C5's

20 x 8.5" w/255/40's (4" sidewall)
20x10 5.5"bs w/295/40's (4.6" sidewall)

Re: 5/7 lowering kit tire help

5/7 here with 245/45r20 front and 305/35r20 rear. Front only rubs on big dips due to needing new front shocks. I had 245/40s on the front and hated the ride. The 45 series sidewall adds just enough cushion

When the move to 17's & larger started, the OE manufactures targeted ~4" sidewall height @ a minimum most likely as a preventative thing so the mass public driving around our pot-hole filled universe wouldn't be coming in weekly to warranty exchange a fubar'd wheel/tire. It makes sense.

As always, the taller the sidewall on simarly constucted tires, the more compliant the ride.
