New Truck, Who Dis?

Bought this today, it is pretty much the exact opposite of what I generally look for in a truck, but I kinda love it already.

The initial selling feature? A 6.2L Diesel and a 700r4 transmission is in it. As well as what looks like an original tilt column, among other things. Build thread coming soon, can't believe I bought another truck, I need this like a hole in the head.

Re: New Truck, Who Dis?

Looks like an interesting truck, first one I've seen with a diesel in it. Do you have any history from the PO? It will be interesting to know why he chose a diesel over a 350 or LS engine.

I look forward to following your build.

Re: New Truck, Who Dis?

Apparently the diesel has been in it for about 12 years, and it has supposedly been freshly rebuilt. Being a 2500, I assume it was put in for pulling power and fuel economy. From what I know of 6.2 diesels in particular, they go where smallblocks go without much to do, despite them being being heavier than a big block. Truck has two batteries, power steering, front discs, and hydroboost, the whole magilla for a 6.2 vehicle.

Aside from the powertrain, what intrigued me was the fact that they used the original in-cab tank for the fuel; that all of the gauges work just fine; and that it has that tilt column, which really, really looks to be a factory option correct for the truck. It seems like the truck was done right, then intentionally made to look like crap to pass for a farm truck.

I really do not need another project and I was on the fence right up until I drove it. I was looking for a reason to walk away. But: it pulls nice, shifts great, and steers like a modern vehicle. Came with a second set of wheels and tires. The guy I bought it from was two and a half hours away, he agreed to meet me halfway in a small town neither of us knew... he was running late and admitted that he did 100 miles an hour in the truck on the way there, just so he didn't keep me waiting.

The truck really looks terrible, but to the previous owner that was kind of the point. I sort of like the way he thinks, even if his taste is different from mine. I plan to clean the cigarette butts and shotgun shells out of it and maybe steamclean the seat this weekend, then change all the fluids and get it on a hoist, hopefully I will have no regrets after that.

Re: New Truck, Who Dis?

There are a few trucks with diesels in them on the forum, including mine.

Super cool! I dig the truck minus the wheels haha.

What kind of turbo? From a 6.5, or aftermarket?

Very cool truck! If you do turbo it, keep the boost down so you can continue to enjoy it. 6.2s are good engines until you expect too much out of them. There is a diesel conversion area in the engines forum if you'd like to check out other trucks with diesels in them.

Yes, its pretty mild to drive, which doesn't bug me but I'd like a bit more torque to pull with.

Re: New Truck, Who Dis?

These wheels are starting to grow on me for some reason. Wonder what brand they are, want to know more about them.
