Looks good. Sorry the 292 isn't working out with all the time you put into making the tranny work with it...

If I was rich,... I'd trade it (and a mountain of cash) for Stella.

You ain't the only one...I would love to take this basket of troubles off your hands too.

Sorry to hear about all the hassle with the "simple" tranny swap. I assume you figured out how to mount the new flexplate with dowel situation. I have never owned one of those straight sixes so I really don't know anything about them. I definetly like the LS idea. Big blocks are cool too.

I need to rebuild the 292,... but in the long run,... I don't think I would be happy with it.
(especially for what they cost to rebuild)

Kinda.
The new dowels are .030" bigger than the holes in the flexplate.
They are suppose to be installed with a .003" interference fit ,in the crank.
The correct way is to bolt the flexplate to the crank and drill and hone the holes.
Then press the dowels in the crank.
I have "Leo Santucci" Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder book.
He swears you don't need them at all,... in an automatic equipped truck. (even in auto equipped drag vehicles).
I have the new flexplate indexed on 1 dowel like any SBC or BBC.

I've wasted enough time on this truck,... for now.
I can move it and drive it.
I'm just not going to replace the windshield or exhaust,... untill I have a new plan.
I really like this truck, for some reason.
Even with the 3" drop springs (that everyone hates),... it rides and drives great to me.

Keith's tried to make things right on this and it has fought him every step of the way. Can't wait to see it on the road, but sometimes it's good to take a step back, reconfigure and start on it again. NO LIFE is a killer project and will have it's time under the knife again. Who knows what's to come. :D

Thanks a TON for everything today Keith.

After selling my ride i wish i had something to play with! your truck looks sweet and if i lived down the street i would love to help out and get my hands dirty. Keith take it from a guy who has no toy, enjoy what you have even if your not 100% happy with it. You have what it takes to make it a 100%, maybe not the money but the heart so keep at it and it will pay off. I know you know that, but sometimes it's nice to have others say it.

Ray

I agree on the big block but you should twin turbo it.

Thanks for the input.
I like the big block idea also.
But I've got to make some more progress on Ginger.
I'd like to be driving it next year,

Today I decided to do a "quick job" that I have been putting off for ever.
About 3-4 years ago I bought a '72 Big Block/th400 truck for parts.
The previous owner had some neighbor kids shoot out the windows,... many year before I got it.
It's been tarped ever since.
I aquired some used window glass from fellow board member 72BlckButy, (thanks Nate).
This quick job took a little longer than I thought.
Both the donor truck and my truck had just about every bolt rusted solid.
All 4 window regulators were junk.
My impact screwdriver and cut-off wheel got the job done.

No more NO-LIFE updates for a while.

It's really pretty beat up.
About every panel is dented up.
The bed is junk.
I've robbed a few good parts already.

I guess it's time to post a build on my red '69 swb.
I purchased this truck around the first of January 2009. I bought it because it was a clean short fleetside truck. It's got a 292 6 cylinder and a powerglide transmission,... which I thought was kinda odd for a short wheelbase 1/2 ton truck.
Anyway,... I've been trying to use only parts that I had laying around, which includes robbing a ton of stuff off of my old '71 swb parts truck.
So far I purchased a nice used grill from member tcb-1, powdercoated headlight bezels from txfirefighter, and a bunch of misc. small parts from other board members. This truck is a perfect example of the deals you can find on this board. Well worth the $25 subscribing members dues,... for all the parts I have found on here.

The suspension is a 5.5"/7.5" static drop.
I'm using some swap meet '71-'72 McGaughy's drop spindles ($100), a set of $89 Summit 3" drop springs, and my old Belltech drop shocks from the blazer. In the rear I have a set of 6" ECE drop springs, ECE Super Track Bar, and ECE shocks and relocators from my '71 parts truck. I also made a set of 1.5" lowering blocks to get the rear down.
This weekend I swapped the alternator for an "internal regulating" off the parts truck. I recently purchased a new Optima battery for the blazer,... so the old AC Delco battery got swapped into the '69. The grille ($75)and swap meet front bumper ($20) got put on last weekend.

Wheels are a set of 7" and 8" 6-lug ralleys I had, with some Ebay centercaps. Tires are 215/70-15's and 275/60-15's for a little rubber rake.
I got the bed installed this afternoon, and took it for a quit trip up the road. (setting on a 2-1/2 gallon bucket. Ha)
The front a-arms are the old stock lowers and CPP uppers off of the blazer. All the tie rods, idler arm, etc. are new.
I've got a ton to still do,... but here's what it looked like when I started, (after a wheel change and minor clean up), and the "new stance" photos I took today.

NICE STANCE! :metal:

Do you think you could fit a set of 22 in wheels under that thing?

Also where can i find a set of 1.5 in lowering blocks?

Thanks

22's would fit if you if you pulled the inner fenders out.
Also the correct backspace would be needed to allow them to turn,... since you don't have bags to raise the front.

Contact board member/ board vendor way2lo2.
He sells lowering blocks.

It was great meeting you.
I might have to get in touch with you if I ever do an LS engine swap.
I think you have it all figured out.
I don't have a clue.

Better yet,... maybe I can just bring you the truck,...

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

How do you think it would look with 2 inch blocks in the rear?

lolife99 08-06-2012 07:41 AM

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

I wouldn't run a 2" drop block with 15" wheels.
Too close to having scrubline issues now, with the 1.5" drop blocks .
If you had 20" wheels it would be ok.

The front a-arms are only 2.5" from the ground now.

This is why a Dropmember is so nice.
You automatically get 3" of free ground clearance, before you add drop spindles, bags or coilover shocks.

The front oem crossmember/a-arm assembly is the worst thing about lowering the 63-87 trucks.
