Have you checked out Welder Series for gussets and stuff? I'm planning to use them to buy a bunch of stuff to get me started: http://www.welderseries.com/ The prices are pretty good, they are listed in CAD so the actual price is about 30% cheaper than listed. |

Re: Used Parts Build
Anyway. Moved my trucks to the new house. Didn't get any pics of the 66 and moving the 75 was a cluster **** (forgot the keys, took the steering apart, realized the keys were in the ignition, rear caliper was stuck, blah blah blah).
Snapped a few pics. The rear wheels look further back in the picture than they are. I am going to adjust the links a bit (there is only 1/4'' of the thread showing) to move the wheels back. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...009_154412.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...009_155639.jpg I have a metal shaping class with Ron Covell this weekend so I might now be able to start back on it until next weekend. |
Re: Used Parts Build
Finally got a bit of work done to my truck. I have been wanting to cut my fenders for the last two months but haven't had the time with moving and the new place. Finally got around to cutting them and (trying) to lay it out.

The hood hinges will need to be modified before I can get all the way down in the front. The oil pan on my engine still needs to be changed from the truck pan to the Fbody pan I have. As it sits now the pan is just about to touch the ground. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...155041_001.jpg Sadly it got dark before I could take pictures of it laid out. |

Re: Used Parts Build
Looking good. You should primer the front of the bed white tho every time i see your truck i think the bed gap is huge then i realize you just have it painted black where you shortened it. When i get my k30 done im gonna bag my c20

Re: Used Parts Build
David you are an exceedingly talented individual.
I am blown away by what you have done. Keep up the good work. Did you ever publish the book you poke of doing? If so I would love to be in line o purchase a copy. Thank you for sharing all the tips and tricks you used. I also wanted to speak to you're kills and your paint box being used in Disney Land. I once worked in Disney World in Florida. Was a wonderful experience. Drive on!! |
Re: Used Parts Build
Nice job you have done on your project. I hope you don't mind if I "barrow/steal" a few of your ideas? I am just at the starting block on my 78 Short bed project (brought it home last Friday). I am also wanting to "keep it cheap" wherever I can.

I do know for sure I will have obstacles to overcome, but you should look in the 67-72 truck projects and search Homer (Meet Homer) my 68 1 ton dually short bed step side pickup I did last year. Shortened the frame 60 inches and the widened the step side (square body) bed 8 inches to fit over the dually wheels. Oh yeah, had to cut off the roof and back of cab to get rid of a walk through hole into the motorhome. I think this build will be much easier. Definitely less Metal fab. |
Re: Used Parts Build
I looked over your build yesterday. Lots of work! I didn't want to do the 6 inches body drop because I didn't want to lose the cab space. My body will touch the ground once I trim the pinch welds, modify my hood hinges, and change my oil pan.

Man I haven't been working on this! Got some pictures my brother's girlfriend took for her photography class.

Re: Used Parts Build
Finally started to work on it again. Took the bed frame off and had the girlfriend help me wire wheel the rust off.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...507_180457.jpg Stripped it clean but it was too late and windy to paint so I will shoot it next weekend. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...507_194519.jpg |
