Thanks. I want to start on my 66 but don't have the space to work on two at the same time. I have a couple ideas for the 66 but don't really have any plans for it yet. I really want to sit down and plan it out so I don't end up redoing a bunch of crap like I did on this one.

I hear ya! Mines a driver so I want to plan mine out so it's what I want, but I don't have it torn to pieces for years. I would like to drive it even if it's not totally complete.

Here it is: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have you checked out Welder Series for gussets and stuff? I'm planning to use them to buy a bunch of stuff to get me started: http://www.welderseries.com/

The prices are pretty good, they are listed in CAD so the actual price is about 30% cheaper than listed.

It sounds so nice but my damn brain takes over and makes me take stuff apart...

I have. I also met a guy who has access to a waterjet but I haven't got around to having him make me anything yet. Most of the time I start working on stuff late at night and don't want to wait to have parts made for me. I will probably redo the backhalf at midnight one evening...

Re: Used Parts Build

Anyway. Moved my trucks to the new house. Didn't get any pics of the 66 and moving the 75 was a cluster **** (forgot the keys, took the steering apart, realized the keys were in the ignition, rear caliper was stuck, blah blah blah).
Snapped a few pics. The rear wheels look further back in the picture than they are. I am going to adjust the links a bit (there is only 1/4'' of the thread showing) to move the wheels back.

I have a metal shaping class with Ron Covell this weekend so I might now be able to start back on it until next weekend.

Finally got a bit of work done to my truck. I have been wanting to cut my fenders for the last two months but haven't had the time with moving and the new place. Finally got around to cutting them and (trying) to lay it out.

Couple of things holding me up right now. The hood hinges will need to be modified before I can get all the way down in the front. The oil pan on my engine still needs to be changed from the truck pan to the Fbody pan I have. As it sits now the pan is just about to touch the ground.

Sadly it got dark before I could take pictures of it laid out.

Nice job you have done on your project. I hope you don't mind if I "barrow/steal" a few of your ideas? I am just at the starting block on my 78 Short bed project (brought it home last Friday). I am also wanting to "keep it cheap" wherever I can.

Thanks. Take all the ideas your want. I got most of them from here anyway. I saw your build thread. I'll be following along to see what you do.

Right on. No sense in any of us re-creating the wheel unless we are wanting to do something different that hasn't been done before.

I am looking at your truck build and thinking that if you would have done a 6 inch body drop instead of a 2.5 inch your pan and crossmember would be up in the air 3.5 inches and your body would be touching the pavement.
I do know for sure I will have obstacles to overcome, but you should look in the 67-72 truck projects and search Homer (Meet Homer) my 68 1 ton dually short bed step side pickup I did last year. Shortened the frame 60 inches and the widened the step side (square body) bed 8 inches to fit over the dually wheels. Oh yeah, had to cut off the roof and back of cab to get rid of a walk through hole into the motorhome.
I think this build will be much easier. Definitely less Metal fab.

Re: Used Parts Build

I looked over your build yesterday. Lots of work! I didn't want to do the 6 inches body drop because I didn't want to lose the cab space. My body will touch the ground once I trim the pinch welds, modify my hood hinges, and change my oil pan.

Right on. I look at all of us together are what have taken this hobby to the level it's at. you copied some stuff, and did your own thing on others. I guess I am trying to say that there's always more than one way to skin a cat. I am trying to not have to back up and change anything once I get in the middle of it.
By the way, your truck looks great.

Finally started to work on it again. Took the bed frame off and had the girlfriend help me wire wheel the rust off.

Stripped it clean but it was too late and windy to paint so I will shoot it next weekend.
