My 68 GMC with a big block and a lumber rack weighs in at around 4500

Re: How much does it weigh?

Thought I would add to this since I ran mine over the scales last month.

71 K20 LWB is 5200#

Mine has a BB, twin saddle tanks (empty at time), 1 ton axles with HD sway bars, 4" spring lift, dual shocks all around and steelies no AC or radio equipment.

Pretty light imho, compared to my Benz and 4Runner it's down right scrawny. 2nd gen 4Runners curb around 5800# same as the 560 SEL and my Runner is around 6500# geared out.

Re: How much does it weigh?

I think those weights in the Data Book are for standard trucks without options or add-ons. Six cylinder 3 speed etc.

AC, Power steering and brakes, V-8 or big block, 4spd etc. adds weight.

My '69 GMC weighed 4680 (when I bought it in '98) on the scale empty but it has saddle tanks, dealer AC (?), wood bed, rear step bumper, etc. (The GMC equivalent of a Long Horn also).

Where are you getting those numbers? that seemed awfully high so I googled them and they are both 3600 to 4000 lbs curb weight.

I stand corrected. Could've sworn I got the 4Runner weight off of Edmunds and estimated geared weight from what I've put in it, but looking now and you are correct. Now I've got to go and weigh them both out to fix my mind. The Benz weight I got off the title and will have to check that too.

My K20 4x4 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper with weight adding options include a/c, heavy duty camper springs and Eagle alloy wheels + 285/75/16 and 1/4 tank of gas weighted at 4800 pounds! With me and the rubber bed mat in it was over 5000, so I removed the mat and me. For California DMV weight fees under 5k is much cheaper.
I hope this helps someone.

My 1970 C10 weighed 4,010 (after subtracting my own bodyweight) according to the scales at the local landfill last time - it has: Long Bed, HD springs, SB350/TH350, front stabilizer and power steering and original steel wheels, regular chrome bumpers and no bed mat but sacrificial 3/8ths plywood. Factory A/C but that entire system is removed at the moment.

Fleetside and steel floor..

Re: How much does it weigh?

My 'real deal' numbers on my C10, 8ft. fleets were in keeping with the measured scale numbers here.....ie: all over 4000 lbs.
My last C10, 8ft bed (Cheyenne Super), with 350, a/c, ps, pb...& without me in it was around 4100 lbs on the scale.
The numbers listed for weights in a lot of GM literature are absolutely bare bones, stripped weights...often with a 6 cylinder, no options and no rear bumper...so do not use these as the number for you truck.
Simple...take it over the scale and weigh it. If you have one of the freeway where you live, just go over there when they are closed and check it out...easy peasy.
I'd love someone to post up a 3800# measured scale weight....I've never seen one of those despite the literature.
That said, you can count on that C20 being (at least) 4500 lbs if it has a V8, ps, pb and a rear bumper.....and thats probably without you in it.

Important operational note: If you have spare fuel tanks you can always fill them with Helium in order to reduce your road weight.

All Good

Here's a source for you:http://www.oldride.com/library/1971_chevrolet_c10.html

The perception that trucks are piggish, overweight brutes is only a result of the past two (maybe three) generations of American vehicles which, due to incessant government nannying, are increasingly heavy and plain huge. Ours, however, ain't that way. ;)

everybody also says the old trucks got 10 MPG HMMM lets see here ,, my 2007 siverado gets 18MPG ,, my 1970 C10 gets 16-17 MPG

Hey guys does anyone know how much the bed itself off a long bed weighs? Going to pick one up for my truck but was wondering if we could just load it up on my buddys truck without a flatbed trailer...my truck isn't running or I would take off the old one and just bolt up the new one.

Truck beds can get damage very easy. If you can use a trailer it is much better. good luck. a1

Heavy enough my floor jack told me it stands replacement. It was used to lifting the front of a C10.

I would guess 325 pounds without the tailgate but If no one else speaks up and you are in a hurry I would look at one of the parts websites and check to see what the shipping weight is for left plus right bedsides and floor.. (and front panel and tubs) for example Classictrucks or LMC or Brothers or The Truck Shop.. one of those should show the weights - maybe you have to add everything to a shopping cart to see the total shipping weight.

Probably the minimum weight off the floor. Add BBC, A/C, step bumper, couple tanks, etc. etc.....4500 might be a reasonable average.

Re: How much does it weigh?

...just back from dropping off a load full of scrap/rotted wood at the dump (careully packed of course...lol)....so I have another truck weight reference for those interested:
The weight of my truck via the weigh scale there was 4180 lbs. (without people/passengers- truck only)

The truck is equipped as follows:
'72, C10, 1/2 ton
8' long bed w/ trailing arm suspension (not leafs)
Relatively complete option group (ps / pb / a/c, radio, gauges, deluxe trim, etc)
350 / auto / h.duty rad / chrome rear bumper w/ hidden tow hitch.
std. tires (235-15") (w/ full spare tire on board)
Fuel load: less than 1/2

....so for sure, easily north of 2 tons..and that is an empty 1/2 ton.

All good

That's gross... my 70 Longhorn scales around 4250 I think. That's what my lift says, and while it says "+/- 2%" I don't know if it's really within 2 percent or not...

My 72 Longhorn is 6450 with about 8 gallons of fuel before my aftermarket bumpers. That is with 3/4 boxed frame, all 1/4" wall cross members, a Cummins, and D60/D80 axles. I figured it would be higher than that when I was building it.

My '68 C-10 seems to weigh more at the gravel pit than it does at the County dump. I think someone's got their thumb on the scales...

I would recheck that number Dave...that definitely doesn't sound right.
If you get a chance take it over a community scale or thereabouts...I think you are going to pick up 500 lbs in a hurry for a 3/4 ton Longhorn.
all good

Re: How much does it weigh?

interesting thread, I am always interested in the weight of a vehicle and how it effects performance and fuel economy. I still havn't driven my truck yet and was wondering how it would do with the 350 that is in it. looks like about 5000 lbs for a K20 probably be not too bad.

I weighed my 67 SWB when I got out of the Army in 2013 - had to weigh it empty and loaded for my self move. 283/manual brakes, no AC, no pS, buddy buckets: 3660 pounds with a 1/2 tank of gas.
