Yeah you did a good job re-enforcing the C-notch but as far as I can tell you said nothing about the cut under the cab, other than a fishplate, that was the one I am referring to. Its your truck just hate to see it fold in half.

Oh... I thought you were just talking about the notch. Sorry!
I've done some more to strengthen the point were the frames meet.

The notch looks good! How well do the shocks fit now? Are they factory length? I think that the 1 piece headlight mod would look good on your truck. Nice job.

Re: Crewella - My '81 crew cab, short bed 1/2 ton

Thanks guys. We're using tall gas shocks since thats what I had, but they're both mounted in front of the axle now. Since it was lowered, we wanted the shocks to be more vertical (like stock). The lower shock mounts are now mounted to a bracket off the bottom spring pack plate.

I ordered a new grill and bezels last night.

I did BGRAFX! Married and workin' on the house. Remodeled the bathroom a couple weeks ago... still have tile flooring to do but I'll probably hold off to do all the tile work at once.

Congrats Glen! I'm glad you're working on the truck instead of the tile LOL the honey do list is never ending. Keep up the good work.

Actually, Perez refers to Pete Perez who painted the truck PPG Chevy White, and also the flames in Blue Chameleon. The owner of the truck [1973 Chevrolet] is Mike Johnson. Mike is the one who hand fabbed the grille out of stainless steel.

Good info! That's a clean CCSB. He must have replaced everything from 1973. The bed, front clip, door panels, all are newer.

Yup! It was a 3/4-ton when it was born, he ditched that frame for a '76 1/2-ton that was stretched 33 inches to fit the body. he kept the 3/4-ton front suspension and a 10-bot rearend was used out back with 3.73 gears. it's powered by a '86 rebuilt 350 with some added power. Street Trucks magazine called it a Hybrid of several Chevy Trucks.

I really love the color of that 1973 CC, can you give me a little more info on it?

That is sweet. I like the integrated rear cargo doors for the back window

Re: Crewella - My '81 crew cab, short bed 1/2 ton

That Avalanche pretty neat. A roll down rear window would be ideal, but the split window is unique.

As for Crewella, I don't have photos, but I had a new driveline made. The rear end needs a new slip sleeve and wheel bearings.

I also picked up a "below the rails" Better Built tool box on Craigslist for $125. I might powder coat it black.

Re: Crewella - My '81 crew cab, short bed 1/2 ton

Worked on Crewella all day today with my dad. Got the front end pretty much wrapped up. We tried using some 3/4-ton springs in the front with 2 coils cut off.... that didn't work. It was about a .5" off the ground. Instead, we used coil off the stock 1/2-ton springs. Works well. I need to pick up 2 tires for the front still. I'm going with a 215/75/15 on 8" rallys. I was going to run some 7" ones in the front, but decided not to after test fitting them. Moved her into the shop from the carport, and I have some wiring to do.

Anyone know how to wire up '91 front clip on an '81? I don't think the plug will plug in since it was off a loaded Suburban.

I got my swap meet headers sand blasted and sprayed them with some Eastwood header paint. Ceramic coating would have been nicer, but its expensive. Gaskets came in the mail on Friday and I'm probably put them on tomorrow to see if they drag.

I'll take my rally rims in to the powder coater this week. Progress has been made!

Can't believe I missed this part...
Is it possible that those racks are the same as the ones that came on Blazers? I searched for a while to find one for my K5 and ended up with one of each style.
Maybe in the next few days I will toss one on the top of my crew to get a mental image.

Hey Rick thanks. I think my rack is closest to the gray dually but I'm not a big fan of the your truck's rack. I bought a single cab dually for parts and it had a bed like that too. Someone did a pretty good job on it too.

No worries about hijackin the thread... I'm glad guys can get some good info.

What size tires are you running on the back? That 215 will be really narrow.
I am running 275/60 on the back of my Blazer and 255/60 on the front. I plan on changing the front to 235/70 which is around the same diameter as the 275/60.
I plan on the same combo for my crew.

The plug is different. It has to do with the year, and not the options though. My crew is an '87 and used the same as what your '81 has (99% sure). My crew had single lights and I used the plug from an '85.
You will need to plug for your '81 and splice it into the '91 harness. It isn't too complicated but there is one issue; I think it has to do with there being an extra light in the blinker housing (that doesn't blink). I forgot exactly how I did it, but it wasn't a huge issue.
I promised another member I would get pictures of the harness but have been too busy to get that done. Will try in the next few days.
