I am running off to a birthday party for my nephew 2.5 hours away so I had to get out in the garage and get my five minutes in. :D Finished up the left patch panel, done!

Started on getting the rear inner window frames clamped in place to weld. I have about all my 37 vice grips out on the floor of the truck. I spent some time getting the left piece in and the left upper piece in....sort of. What I see, it will take me 274 hours to get those clamped in place! I can't wait to get it done though, that will be the last thing to weld on the cab, WHOOO HOOOO!

I got my 53 Corvette tail lamp bezel for my truck in the mail today, WHOOO HOOOOoooooooo damn this thing is rough. I got a tail light assembly a few years ago and now I needed another. One problem, all I see are pairs and they are going for $600-900! So I got this bezel for $40. Geeez and the repro lenses are $125 each so the stuff ain't cheap.

Spent the better part of the day welding up firewall holes. Wow this had a lot of holes. Welded until I ran out of wire, figured that was a good stopping point.

Seems tough to access with the engine still in.

I came across a GREAT deal on a parts truck. its been sitting for a long time. I bought this for $50 guys. $50! the bumper brackets are worth that. im going to use only a few parts and will then offer it to you guys super cheap. I don't have the room for a parts truck so its going to be a quick offer once I pull my parts off of it then it will go on craigs list. im stoked guys. I love a good deal. im going to say it one more time guys. $50.00!!!

Poor truck. :( At least some of it will go to a good home. A lot better than leaving it out there to die.

OMG I worked all day today, beat my ever loving butt getting this inner structure welded in. YEOW this muther beat me up! Working inside, that's hard enough but this sucker, on my knees in there the whole day, YEOW.

I was going to give up, just tack it in, then I got a second wind and came in the house for a bit then went back out and welded it completely. Again, that was it, I give up, I figured I would grind a few welds, got a third wind and ground the whole thing, it's done....well ready for bondo which will be another living hell. Damn does it add a BUNCH working inside, I could do all four fenders with less work than this. Anyway, I am thrilled that all of the metal work on the cab is finished! I can get it in primer now, my next step.

If it still has the firewall-to-fender support rods, I'll speak up for those.

finished my compressor today. it was kind of a (insert your favorite curse word here). everything bolted in but the compressor was at an angle. took forever to get it straight. then I made all of the spacers. all that's left as far as I remember at this very moment is to back all the bolts out and locktite them. now im moving on the adjustments for the alternator. its going to slid slightly rearward to run off of the rear pulley. I will need a shorter belt and I noticed the lower waterpump bolt is a possible rub spot. I might need to replace it with a platter bolt. maybe a button head or something. getting there guys.

Working with the wood. I’m not much of a wood guy, I usually stick with metal, but have to get out of my comfort zone sometimes. I can’t afford a fancy bed kit, so I do what I do best and use what is available. And today that is nine rough cut Douglas fir boards.

Not perfect (or even close) but it’s a start.

Thanks, I'll be in your neighborhood this weekend. There's a vintage trailer rally up at Riverbend Campground. The whole campground will be full of vintage trailers and there's an open house on Saturday if you're interested.
I'll have my truck and camper there.

I was planning on finding this but my windshield guy flaked out on my last week. Twice. I drive it with the wind in my beard, but I guess it’s frowned upon traveling with a toddler.

Maybe next time.

Hey, I'd be interested in that vintage trailer rally. Where and when?

When I was a kid I drove my truck more than I worked on it, I would do a weld or two and then drive it and it had no glass, I would have my grinding goggles on. LOL I can't wait to drive it without a glass now, I can't wait!

Nice price. The cab looks great. Are the cowls and cab corners good?

There are several vintage trailer rallies in Oregon. I'm a member of ROVT http://www.rovt.org/. There's a lot more info on the Facebook page, but I don't do Facebook.

One of the largest Rallies is 4th of July weekend
http://all-american-rally.com/

I think all trailers are pre '76 and usually Flyte Camp brings something really amazing like this Holiday House priced at $250K.

Sorry to get off topic, I enjoy vintage trailers as much as trucks.

evilokc, I'd be interested in the windshield wiper assemblies, i.e. the linkages, wiper mounts etc. I don't need the vacuum motor but will take it if you want it all to go as a unit.

Thanks
Dave

No problem, your bed wood looks good and doing the windshield yourself isn't hard.

I will probably go to the Filling Station cruise in on 07/13. If you're interested in the vintage trailers there's a rally in Brooks July 4th weekend or one in Brownsville July 20th weekend. We should be at the Rally on the River in Brownsville 07/20.

I am interested in the window frames that the door glass goes in. They can't be rusty though, a little is ok but the ones I have are seriously pitted and I plan on chroming them.

If it's a 47-48 also the gas filler tube.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I discovered that the horn relay was not connected to the column wiring so I fished the wires out of the harness and connected them, now the relay clicks when I press the horn button. That was the last item on my list of things to do.

On the way home from work I picked up my doors from the body shop, the plan is to paint the jambs and get them hung so the truck can go to the paint shop. My painter is delivering the car he finished up for a customer sometime this week. He came over on Sunday to look things over and said it all looks good. It feels like the weight of the world is lifted off my shoulders. Everything seems to be falling into place.

While the truck is at his shop I plan to empty my garage and finish the drywall, give it a coat of paint and get everything reorganized for reassembly.

Hey, your mockup motor is nicer than my real motor, ha ha! And with that configuration on the front suspension, it's going to be VERY low.
