Re: Project: Tall Grass

Hey fellas. I have a couple of small updates.

its getting hard to find time to build this thing. With the daughter and working out of town, time is scarce.
I wont complain, the gf is very supportive of me and my truck addiction, and getting this thing to finally move......

Thanks being said, I recently had a machinist buddy make me some bungs that fit inside the 1-5/8 tubing running through the notch, thaat were tapped in the center.- Instant upper shock mount. I drew up and had some lower tabs lasered out.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...03056783_n.jpg

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...19664436_n.jpg

Soo now I have a bit of welding and some grinding and I can paint the rear suspension..

I have to run brake/fuel lines and exhaust. So the cab came off again.
I FINALLY got the drive shaft/ proper ujoints/ carrier bearing in and mounted... it was a good day.I need to get some material to replace the gaping hole I sliced through the trailing arm crossmember.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...97629515_n.jpg

After the drive shaft , I moved onto my new lokar, with a " Delmo " shift knob.

To me its a delmo knob, because the first time I ever saw one was in a lil 31 hemi powered 5 window he built. Sick car, and I thought the shifter knob was the coolest thing ever. Had to have one........

looks cool yes, comfortable? time will tell, I have the factory knob on standby.....

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...26037753_n.jpg

Thats it for now, id really really like to see the rear half painted and brake lines mocked up so I can have my flex hoses made while im at work...........

Annnd here one more pic I like pics everyone does., the garage was/ is a disaster... less of now but still..

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...16155165_n.jpg

I did sneek out one afternoon and did a bit of work to the 2012. Just a mild lowering job, and pulled a couple decals.
The 98 behind it is my commuter truck, been a great lil unit , been racking up over 5,000 km a month on it for the last year , almost two., it hasnt complined too much. I have a truck hoarding issue........

Re: Project: Tall Grass

Zero, pictures to throw down.
Pulled the rack and clearanced the lh engine mount. The flaming river Ujoints do not clear a factory pb mount. Minor clearancing was needed.
All hard lines for the brakes are done!!. Waiting on a flex line for the rear.and the two down lines from the m/c and I'll have brakes
Roughed in the fuel line, pump filter and regulator all fuel line is -6 braided stainless.
Waiting on a few misc fittings.

So next week when I'm back I'll get that all flanged up, then build some exhaust. 2.5 mandrel bent with an h pipe and flowmaster super 40's

Hopefully paint some stuff, and we can start slamming this heap together, I NEED TO CRUISE!!!

Re: Project: Tall Grass

Allright , lets do a lil Throw back thursday.

A bit more on the history of this bucket and me.

My dad passed away of cancer when I was 12, He was a coolest dude Ive even known. Still miss him a ton.He got me hooked on this stuff, His baby was a 1968 SS/RS camaro( which I still have) , after he passed I was stuck in a house of women. So I hung out in the garage, and couldnt leave anything alone. After hot rodding the riding lawnmower with my uncle ( also a big car guy/ hot rodder.
What does an average 14 year old do over summer break? I have no clue< I worked on the farm for my uncle and bought a 1964 chevy pickup....

Full of Bondo, a blown engine , but she was mine for $400!!!!!!

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...73030968_n.jpg

Gross huh? Ive re-bodied the truck twice now!!. and frame, well actually I dont think there's anythign left of the original truck....

Yes that the rodded mover in the back....hahha

anyway , yea Ive had the truck this long, im 28 now....

okay back to progress.
I am happpy to report the chassis fab is DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Closed in the gap on the Traling arm crossmember I made earlier!!

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...27037446_n.jpg

So I ripped the back end down for paint., A lil smoothing and high build.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...60572071_n.jpg

Then some paint...

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...59390546_n.jpg

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...40878353_n.jpg

Just waiting impatiently now, I also painted the watts link, the 4 link bars and the diff, CANNOT wait to get the hell out this place ( work) and head home and put this mofo together!!!!!!!!!!!

This progress is cool(subliminal message(stick with the shiny wheels)subliminal message)and it'd be SWEET to see you puttin gas in this thing(stick with the shiny wheels), and I'm ALL in helping make this(stick with the shiny wheels) straight and glossy blue/white, but just think of the lump in your throat to see that Camaro in its former glory. Stuff like that gets me.

Re: Project: Tall Grass

Hey Pat this is what im running 99-02 camaro long tubes. I got these ones from Speed Daddy..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RACING-MANIF...5a19a3&vxp=mtr

they do need a couple of mods they have some little pollution sumthin pipes/ flanges sticking up off of them. and the LH header kicks into the frame rail , it can easily be corrected with one cut , rotate the collector and weld.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...90486869_n.jpg

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...33547137_n.jpg

I had my buddy tig em up and he filled the air tubes for me as well. Came out super slick....

They come very close to the lower control arm shaft so I made some minor dimples on one tube on each side. Some guys say the pacesetters fit real well too. The price was hard to beat and the quality is good on these so Ill give em a shot.

also a side note to others these headers require trimming the te side of the bellhousing ear on my th350.

hope this helps.

For sure , hope these help

Step :1 flip the frame over, or remove the crossmeber its probably better to keep it in the frame for modding.

and cut out all the taper so the crossmember will be smooth all the way across so It wont drag and your truck will lay out properly.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...29991912_n.jpg

Cut up some 3/16 plate to fit the shape.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...04033023_n.jpg

weld it out and smooooooooth.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...94032196_n.jpg

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...04692141_n.jpg

the top I dont have pics of. I cut out the top and welded in a peice of 3 inch pipe to clear the drive shaft it was awfully close, so I gave it a lil room.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...64064045_n.jpg

to look at it now, it kinda bugs me I didnt fill the old trailing arm mount holes............. uh oh.......

I really Dig your work .Looking good! I'm kinda doing the same style rear setup on my 61 but I was looking at the welder series four link. The one you used looks much more stout , I like that. If you don't mind me asking where'd you get it , and what are the length of the bars c-c ?

Hey guys looks like I've got some work to do, I'm not sure where the pics went.

I took a time out this summer . I picked up a 72 long box with 26,000 original miles. Slammed it on air, and used my 20/22 coys on it.

I'm back on the 64 now. I just finished smoothing out the rad support, and I expect to make smoke mid January. Then I can make everything look pretty !!

Pics will be post when I figure it all out..

Hey Jason!

I haven't updated since I lost all my pictures. Kinda disheartened a little I guess.

Ill have to ask a mod how to fix this.

Still picking away , I shaved the rad support, moved the battery to the rear,
Mounted the fuel cell , and I'm redoing the flush mount brake booster.

I mounted the rad, and Efan. And have to build a shroud.
After that I can body work abd paint the rad support.

Then finish plumbing the fuel system, and wire it up.

Been busy with accuair installs for other people as well.

So yes I've been squirreling away for Portland 28 days from now, not that I'm counting.....lol

I'm trying , I'm trying

I need more time!!!!

I work away from home. Week on week off. + I have a super cute 1 year old daughter. + we are building a new house ie bigger garage!!!

And for some insane reason. I became a dealer for Porterbuilt and Accuair.
I've been super busy with other installs.

I have a 68 long box build for a customer that's gonna kick off soon. But I'm trying hard to hear this thing run before I dig into the 68.

It stops, it steers . I need to finish the cooling system, plumb the fuel and powernsteering lines.
Then wiring.,

It's coming S l o w l y . . .
