I am probably required to have a solid linkage , just havent gotton there yet

HPT truck shootout . Went a few rounds . Made adjustments after every round as the truck is way different with the cage . I was the smallest tire in the event and on a DOT with a street truck . All others were bracket race trucks . 80 % of the trucks there were street trucks with hard tires . I was at a huge disadvantage , but i made a few passes and got a few things lined out . Really have to look to even see the bars in it . Also got interveiwed and pictures taking and might be in street trucks magazine as they were covering the event .

Well , I ran Street legal warrior last weekend and got flat out run over . I changed jets to my 200 tune up and bolted up the ET streets thinking i was gonna set the world on fire . Truck went 6.25 on 165 and drag radials . Now with 200 and bias plys it went 6.30 best pass . I went 6.37 to a 5.90 in the first round . Guy had a 3100# notch with an 88 mm that flat out rolled . I tree'd him and was ahead at 60' , but here he came . On the trailer quick .

Racing for us will be down for a couple of weeks with the nationals at the big track and several grudge events at the small track . Back to 7.0 index and bracket racing . The turbos took that class over .

2 day race weekend . 1/4 mile on sat and 1/8th on sunday at Royal purple raceway ( old HRP and 1/4 mile ) . The nationals were last week so the track was really good . Also first passes on 28 true 10.5's . Started out sat with a stumble tore the front off the old demon and change the pump , squirter gaskets and add 2 numbers to the front jets as i wouldnt have time to reopen it before 1st round . the stumble went away with the changes and off to first round . Ended up going 5 rounds and broke out , but a good day . It was hot and my reaction times showed it . Sunday was better . Cooler with some cload cover all day saturday in the 1/4 mile race the truck went 7.05 to 7.08 so i knew what to do . Stuck a 7.04 on it and let it eat . Reaction times were good truck was good then down to 11 cars and the stumble came back . Had 7.03 on it and we went .164 on the light ouch , he spun as he was out first and didnt know i was late . I drove it out and drug the shifts out and ended up a nose over at the strip with a 7.01 . All in all a good weekend . Now 4th in points Division 4

Re: New project

These things have changed my consistancy . One of the local small tire car guys hooked me up with a set of his take offs . 6 passes @3200 and a 706 with 2 kits . Just getting broke in for my truck .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...422_204942.jpg
Also had a small oil leak . Not bad enough to be backed out of the start line , but it has been there and i knew about it and it has been bothering me . Passenger side crear corner of the intake at the corner of the head and intake . Tore into it and cleaned everthing up . Gaskets are ordered and will be in tommorow . Swapping to the QFT 750 also . Got a list of about 10 things that i need to update this week . Testing friday night , as we have another 2 day event on the 19th weekend and im their .

What did they charge for the cert. Here in Az it is like pulling teeth to get the NHRA tech to show up at the track to do certs, then... $280 for his trouble. My Nova's 8.50 cert expired last month, as did the SFI trans case. Man <9.99 is sure a money pit!

Well good to see someone knows how hard it is to get that little silver sticker .

The guy that did the Rollcage had 7 cars lined up within a 5 mile radius . I was luckily off work and loaded up and was their when he got their . He looked everything over to a t . Very professional . $200 Cash .

Thanks

I got 7 passes in last night before the rain . The carb helped out my reactions as my worst was .041 and best being .008 Every pass was inside of those two . I also bought a pair of new tubes and rotated the slicks . It went 1.52 60' on motor which i thought was good . Still got a small oil leak and the only thing i havent touched are the valve covers . They are coming off next week .

Re: New project

Found the leak on the distributor slip coller . Made some modifacations to the throttle linkage to get wot . Just been running it through heat cycles every day checking for problems . Got a 2 day ET bracket event sat & sun . If i am out quick sat im loading up and going to HMP .

Yea , it's more about going rounds . This is my first year over there and im the "new guy" funny they all know me by name now . Think we had 58 or 59 cars saturday for 1/4 mile and more sunday for the 1/8th mile race . fun weekend . Now to fix the truck . Call to Calvert .

hotrod 80 05-22-2012 06:54 AM

Re: New project

Talked to Travis at Calvert today and he pulled up the specs from the Blue truck i had . Looks like they only make 2.5 inch springs @ 200 a # spring rate. This leaves me having a set made and then having them milled to 2.25 in front for the spring pocket or replacing the front mount . Also looking at moving to a 9/16" or 5/8" front eye bolt for safety reasons . Also considering a sllider style rear mount vs a shackle any input on this would be greatlly appreciated , ecspecially street drivability and manners .

I have been wondering why i had 7 degrees of nose down pinion angle . I took some of that out with a shim awhile back , looks like the spring has been flatting a little every pass for awhile . I'll be starting from scratch on the pinion angle with new springs and adjusting the heighth with the rear mount .

Looking at this front mount

and these sliders

Re: New project

Well , ended up goung Mopar style front mount and rear slider . Speedway has the ball bearing slider for $49 each . The spring will be built to factory lengths and stock height and i willl adjust the ride height with the rear slider spacing off the frame . Also rear shocks are in front on axle and inboard of the leaf . These will be moved straight up and down and behind the axle . I am told the adjustments become more distinctive when the shocks are not angled and are vertical . Waiting on parts now going to the chassis shop tuesday after the long weekend . Im just letting the guy that did the cage do it .

I also bought a new ( used ) trailer . 24 ' enclosed with 4' side door and a/c and work bench . Picking it up saturday 20 miles east of Dallas .

hotrod 80 05-27-2012 02:14 PM

Re: New project

Trailer deal fell through . Drove all the way to Dallas , 10 hours round trip , to find the trailer was from up north and had road salt type damage . Lost $100 deposit and $150 in fuel plus a day .

hotrod 80 05-30-2012 11:53 AM

Re: New project

Looks like we are going to leave the shocks in their factory state an dadjust the bottoms to 1.5"-2" of compression and the rest extension . This will allow the springs and bars to work . Also looking at a Coilover in front to replace shaocks and remove all the torsion bar cross member and parts . Just going to make one change at a time . Hoping to have it back together by the weekend .

I saw you posting on HTR the other day and was wondering if it was the same hotrod80. Cool truck you have, and as close as youre running with Billy it must be fast! I've been considering stepping out of the lowriders and in to racing as a hobby.
