Re: Help with rear axle code
a code that was stamped 40years ago is not always what is inside now alot of times// a simple rear fluid change will give you a foolproof answer

Re: Help with rear axle code
True enough, I am pretty sure this is an unmolested truck though, as far as the rear axle. I plan to pull the cover soon and change gear oil but I have a lot to get done before I get around to it. I really would like to find a ratio code chart.

Re: Help with rear axle code
Yes that site is dead, I now have an interchange manual that lists the codes, post up your axle code and I can tell you what it originally was

Re: Help with rear axle code
Its a 70 pickup TDA. I found another post after I did a search that said it is a 3.73. Im guessing its an open (peg leg)
|
Re: Help with rear axle code
You are both correct, the GM parts manual says that is a 1072 3.07 (open) for CS/CE, and the same stamp was used in 1970 for a 3.73 (open). Therefore, if it is a 6-lug, it's probably the 3.73 and if it is a 5-lug it's probably a 3.07.
Good Luck!! |
Re: Help with rear axle code
It is a 6 lug, 3.73 should be nice with my overdrive. Thank you!

Re: Help with rear axle code
Need a bit of help, have a 1970 C-10 that I have reason to believe was swapped to a 71 Frame, dash sheet says automatic & had to cut a bellhousing crossmember out that was riveted in, disc brakes, and rear lug studs for a 70 didn't fit but 71's did, as well as a 71 type grill, & am noticing looseness in the rear end, anyway it is 5 lug with coils and the number on pumpkin is 3896838 and code on tube is RHA W143 1

Re: Help with rear axle code
RHA, '72 CS/CE10 3.07:1 Chevrolet Parts Manual
|
Re: Help with rear axle code
How about this one?
RA 0208 W2 |
Re: Help with rear axle code
Both 68 and 69 used RA for the 3.07 open for a Series 10.

For example, mine is stamped 11:41. 41 divided by 11 equals 3.7272, so it's a 3.71:1 gear ration |

I know its an old thread but need help with my axel code. Looks to me as ZLD 12 10 K. Can't find the prefix ZLD anywhere. I'm pretty sure the 12 10 K is Dec 10th McKinnon Foundry St. Catherines . Guy said it is a 3.08 from a 69 GMC910.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1514680862
