Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
Ok I guess its time to start a build thread on my new project. I came across this pickup through a buddy and decided to go for it. Its an 82' short bed with stock 350 and turbo 400. The object is to build a nice c10 thats not too over the top but I will still enjoy. I started the truck in the summer of 2010. so here goes...
The day I took it home... http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0291.jpg http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0336.jpg Starting teardown with some new shoes!:metal: http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...orVideo027.jpg |

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
SHAVED:bann: Just the way i like em...I left the stock junction block for harness for ease on reassembly. but i did eliminate the section where e-brake cables and speedo cables come through to clear my tires.
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...irewall004.jpg Replaced fromt driver rocker corner due to rust damage. I used an LMC Rocker panel. not sure how happy i am with the part but you wont see anyways... http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...3-13162540.jpg When i tried to shift out or park for the first time i about ripped the shifter mechanism out of the floor (wood screws holding it in) so i waterjet out a sandwich plate setup out of .125 mild steel and welded bottom plate to underside of floor. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...orVideo082.jpg |

small update today. frame is off to gorilla industrial coatings for a "lava black " powdercoat job. Included all springs, steering arms, and misc brackets. my brother used this company and color on his 68 chevelle frame and it turned out amazing.:metal: i cant wait. usually takes about a week to get back.

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
so a small update today. met a guy on craigslist ended up trading an old set of hedman hedders and 80 bucks for a complete shortbed. bed has dual tank fuel doors, no rust, and the best part is its strait with no bondo. no pictures yet. This new bed saves me a ton of time because my old bed needed some serious work, someone used fiberglass and a gallon of bondo to do some repairs before i got it.

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
BMFP-im going camping with elaines friends this weekend. im definately itchn to go though.
on another note- i got the new bed torn apart, my old bed torn apart, layed all the parts out on my lawn and picked the best pieces from both beds and made a frankenstein bed that is pretty much ready for final body work. then i got rid of all the spare crap that i had laying around through craigslist and the scrap yard. now my garage and side yard is nice and clean!!! Hopefully my frame is coming back sometime this week and i can start the actual "build" process of this truck!:metal: |

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
here is a question for some of you "guru's" out there. when i went to pull my cab off, 3 of the 4 mounting bolts ended up stripping on me. my front drivers bolt is seized. the two rear bolts just spin and i can hear the nut inside my cab spinning. so i ended up just cutting them off with the sawzall through the mounts. so now i have about 1.5 inches of seized bolts sticking out of my mounts. any ideas on how to fix it?
|
Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
go in side the cab and make a small t cut were the nut is and weld it back
|
Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
Ill betcha I could cut a hole inside the cab. Pull out thei seized stud and nut combo out the top and weld in a nice fancy new nut. Thanks for the good idea, I'm gonna try here soon

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
did you ever put the 70s clip on before u tore it all the way down??
|
Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
ive never had the clip fully together. dont have a hood. but i did hang the fenders and core support with no issues. i do know that the lights have different connectors for the harness but i expected that. why do you ask? Do you know something i dont?:dohh:
|
Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
The front of the frames on the 73-80 to 81-87 are different, so the front bumper mounting may require some work. I had to cut my 75 frame to fit the newer style bumper.

i had the 4 head light he is right there. when i did the swap all the wiring worked for me that was original to the truck i just dont have high beams witch is fine for me right now. i just had to change the turn signal housing thats under the head light on the older front end.. and also i had to move the radiator mounts that are riveted to the frame forward a inch |

Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
Did you guys have any other major issues with the swap? im doing a new harness so i figured i could do whatever i need to get the lights and signals working.
What was the reason for moving the radiator mount forward an inch? im kinda confused but its not the first time |
Re: Nobaddaze's 82 C10 Cruiser Build
Do not run that bumper with the round eyes. Haha. I think it looks gross, but that is just my opinion. I'm in the middle of my swap, (im swapping the other way). I noticed the side brackets don't line up either. I'm gonna have to do some modifying on mine anyways because im z'ING it and trying to retain my swaybar, so I won't be much help. I have feeling you may need to drill new holes as well, but I could be wrong.
