Identify - Year / Model

1 Attachment(s)
Have inquired w/owner, no reply yet.
Do you recognize the year and model of this dump truck ?

I suppose the cab is a bit larger than a standard 1/2T, 3100. ?
Appears the 3100 is well suited to fit an S10 chassis.
Would this cab be more suited to fit on a 79 K10 chassis ?
Ever seen such a project undertaken ?
Thanks.

This one looks similar.
Listed as a 56 - 4400.

Trying to imagine one of these on the K10

Re: Identify - Year / Model

its a 4400 or bigger, for sure. the 1/2 ton front end will fit if you have one.

here is a guy building a very nice 1/2 ton on a K20. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=726477

for what its worth, the 1/2 ton does not fit an s10 very well unless you stretch the front wheel track significantly. I put a 65 swb on an s10 and widened the control arms 4 inches per side.

So, which would be easier ?
Put the K10 driveline in the 4400 frame/cab ?
or
Put the 4400 cab onto the k10 chassis ?

Thanks Joe.

Why not just put the 4400 cab on a stock 1/2 ton 3100 frame? Plenty of them available and kits to upgrade to IFS.

Re: Identify - Year / Model

probably a spartan 1.5-2 ton: same cab, doors, grill and hood as 3100 thru 3800
the frame/suspension is heavier and the fenders are wider and have a bigger wheel opening
next up is the viking 2.5 ton and up

The truck you are looking at should be a 57 with the ribs on the hood.

If you want to go 4x4 it should fit pretty well on the 77 K 10 chassis outside of the "normal" frame swap issues. There are a couple of them in this area on K 20 chassis that have been running around for years. If you are going 4x4 I'd leave the clearance lights on top of the cab and run the big truck bumper. Give it that serious get er done look.

THAT'S the look I'm lookin' for ! BTW, both grilles look the same, but only one hood is ribbed tho. Maybe some changes ... or repairs over the years ?

That would be good, I like bigger tires. Would be cool to run the original 20's with my 411 rears. Weld new 6 lug centers in.

Because I have the K10 and want to end up with a 4WD "working" truck. ;)
Thanks.

Might go look at it over the weekend.
Thanks again guys.

hate to be a debbie downer: fat chance of that happening, seriously
most frame swaps end up sucking time, money and relationships down the drain
they languish in the shop and eventually end up on craigslist priced not to sell

Hmmmmm .... maybe I'll reconsider then. Surely don't want to loose everything I've worked for so far.
Looked like far more successes than failures on the forum here.
Probably just a passing fancy anyway. Our stock 54-3100 and original 39 Master 85 are probably enough to keep up with anyway. Seemed like a doable project tho ... initially.
Thanks for the warning.
;)
