electric cooling fan
 

i have a 72 c10 with a 402 BB. i currently have a standard non clutched fan. my shroud is a bit beat up and the top mounting tabs broke so i had to mount it a little higher than normal. this has given me a gap between the radiator and the shroud at the top. not good for air flow. i want to switch to electric fans but as we all know they are pretty expensive. i have seen a few posts on getting elec. fans at the junkyards. i'm just unsure what year/model i should be looking for. am i better off just spending the $300 + on a new setup?

Spend the money and get your self a dual flexalite one time expense...Miami summer 95 degrees hot as hell a/c on and a fully built 406 and my engine does not go past 160 degrees.....Trust me!!!!

IMO, you should buy a new/used shroud, buy a new clutch and buy a new/used clutch fan. Will probably cool better than most electric fans and will cost a little less.

I am getting ready to order a non polished Stainless cooling fan shroud from CLASSIC HEARTBEAT. The add says the it will accept two 12" cooling fans. My plan is to buy the shroud, buy two 12" 1630 CFM SPAL cooling fans, and a SPAL controller to see if I can suck the chrome off the front bumper. Yes this an expensive way to go. My last car had two 11" spal fans on it and it would " keep up " with NE FLA heat, but did not help the ZZ502 be cool. Do your homework, and understand the wiring to the controller, and the 12" fans. Truck will run cool, and so will you.

i wouldn't bother either. Get the proper clutch assembly and shroud and call it good for another decade or two

electric fans are nothing but expensive and troublesome and they dont cool from my experience. i have a brand new electric fan i,ll sell you CHEAP.....

the square ford tuarus fans are real good 2 speed units, make sure you grab the relay that goes with it, they will draw an ass load of juice to start up.

the volvo fans are bigger one speed square fans and dont draw as much but you will still need at least a 30amp relay.


i ran 2 kragen specails as pushers, black majic or some knock off and was happy, they are a open fan body, no shroud.

You can use a 95 XR7 4.6 2 speed fan. Same as the Mark VIII. Its almost a drop in deal. Rock auto has the fans for about $80. I put one in my truck and it works great

I just did the Ford Contour fans in my Jeep. It has a mild 350. I was running a 7 blade fan with a clutch. It doesn't cool any better or worse then before but one side affect was it made way less noise then before. Even with both fans running its way quitter then a stock fan and clutch. Something to think about.
