1954 Chevy / S10

Hi my name is Shannon , I have been watching this site for a couple years and thought I would put my project on here. My own project is a 1948 Chevy panel, but I am building a couple other projects besides my own. I started with just a rusty cab, put in all the panels. I made the firewall and toe board and the patch panels that they don't make because it's a 54'. Then mounted it on the S10 frame. I then made my own bed to the 54' sizes except raised the bed floor 2 inches and narrowed it 2 inches for the 3 inch wider fenders. mounted all the fenders and hood, the made the roll pan and tail lights, splash aprons and the running boards. Right now I'm mounting the bull nosed grill and making/ mounting the radiator support. Truck will have a SBC, 700R4, And a F*** 8.8 3.73 Posi rear. I t has standard front springs and has Summit 3 inch lower leaf spring for the rear. I'll keep posting pictures as I go.

I got the grill in. If anybody else is doing a 1954 - S10 conversion it is different than the pre 1953. The lower grill needs to be cut to go around the steering box. I need to start on the radiator support next and the hood fitment. Then make new inner wheel wells.

Halfadime, I made them. It's 1/4 red acrylic with drop ceiling diffuser for the prizmatic reflector and you have use to used a special glue because epoxy will not work. I found out the hard way. That way you can make what ever shape and size you want.

Masshole, I used 1 1/2 exhaust tubing and welded it to the 16 gauge sides. You have to really watch your heat so you don't warp it out. I have made 4 beds and have it down to a science. I built one for my son to slept in.

99 to Life, good to see someone from PA too, not to many. You are right about the rust. It's good that I love doing sheetmetal work.

Here is the latest pictures. I finally got the radiator support made and mounted. Ended up mounting toward the passenger side so it wouldn't sit too high. The fan will be more to the center of the radiator. The lower part of the grill needed to be notch out. Next will be to make the inner wheel wells and the mounts for the front fenders ( there kinda floating there). The panels also need made to get the air into to radiator up front.

I got the motor and trans mostly mounted. I have to finish welding the front motor mounts when I pull the motor and clean and paint the frame. I am still working on the trans mount, I still have to fish mouth the 2 back braces and make the flanges and frame mounts. I also have to gusset the trans mount bracket. Found an set of coated hedman headers so they will clear the steering. Also going to put a 8 inch dual diaphragm booster with a vette master cylinder under the floor. Then will be able to finish the floor as soon as I add the power feed to my bead roller. Here's the latest pictures.

Kabwe, Thank you.

Got the cross member almost done. Pulled the fuel line out and it leaked gas all over the frame. So no welding on that side tonight. Should have pictures next week. I'm not working on it this weekend. My wife and me are going to the King of Prussia mall to do some Christmas shopping for the weekend . We are going without the kids ( we have 3). We haven't done that since 4 years ago! It is much needed!

Re: 1954 Chevy / S10

When we had no money and young kids a group of about half a dozen families formed a babysitting co-op. Every week one of the families was designated as the place to drop your kids on Saturday afternoon if you wanted to. It worked out great. We knew every six weeks we would have a house full of kids, sometimes for the evening, sometimes overnight. We always had lots of games, activities, etc. for them to do. This was in the 70's before laser disc's, vhs and dvd's, but kids expectations were different and we were just a bunch of hippies who let them run wild anyway. Tempe had lots of parks and we only lived a couple of block off campus which afforded lots of opportunity for exploration too. Over the three years we did not injure or loose one kid!
