Re: 454 vs 496 vs 502
I scored like a 20,000 mile engine out of a motorhome 800 bucks like new... ported with 30 hours of finess and pain cut my 3 angle valve seats on the peanut port heads.. the bottom end was already decked like ten, 0.020 head gasket yielding like8.1:1 instead of 7.9:1.. took a lunati 60202, had it custom ground on a 108 LSA to get just under 7.4 DCR , Gets 15in of vacuum with 16degrees initial and a q-jet at say 700 rpm .. cheap regular street sized headers... There is your 500+ ft lbs of torque... here is a similar with junk peanut heads( unported) same cam on the 112 LSA on 8.8:1 compression dynoed:

That sounds like a fun engine. I've been seriously considering building a 496. Would you be willing to share the basic info on the engine?

Yes, thank you for sharing the info on your engine. :)
That helps those of us considering building a 496 in that we know a little more what it takes to achieve a given power goal. |

Naw.....don't mess with those little motors. Here is one of Mark's (vortecpro) little 650HP 496's in a 3.08 geared 71 vette.
