67' C-10 radio nightmare!!

Hi folks, I have a 67'C-10 and took the crappy radio out that someone put in it. I bought the correct Delco AM radio and knobs, and an $80.00 replacement speaker from LMC truck. When I looked under the dash, there is NOTHING to screw, attach, or bolt this speaker to!! I went on ebay and found a dude selling a radio "AND" a speaker!! The speaker has 4 brackets on it!!! I'm starting to think the speaker was mounted on top of the radio instead of the underside of the dash!! Anyway, check out ebay item # 170442950090 and SOMEONE help me here if you can!! Maybe you know how I can install this speaker. My email address is Rykowski@comcast.net or 203 888 9617. I've been driving around with the glove box torn out for 3 weeks!!Thanks, Rich........

The speaker does attach to the dash. Four brackets are correct if you include the unit that attaches to the radio. Those brackets may be some of the hardest brackets for these trucks to find, especially the support strap from the firewall portion to the back of the radio. The correct speaker is still available but in NOS form is expensive. If you use the stock radio be sure that the ohms are correct on the speaker or you will mess up the radio. I have found a source for the speakers called electro-tech. They refurbish them for around $50 and worth it if you want stock stuff.

you know it would be cool ( BUT KIND OF WEIRD) to have a working radio in a 60's vehicle , I have never had a radio , my 67 camaro has it's original AM radio it doesn't work but I would not take it out for NOTHING !
my 67 C10 has it's factory RADIO DELETE PLATE :metal: which is the coolest thing EVER ! maybe I will get a vehicle one day to have a radio in ??

I have an original AM radio for each of my trucks. The chevy came with it and the GMC came without one but I found one in a junkyard. The problem is they only have AM and only goes up to around 1550 on the radio dial. Newer radios go up to 1720 or higher. Locally I can pick up a Spanish language station and a religious one and that's about it.

Remember you will need one of these connectors if you go stock.

Jerry Rudbeck specializes in our old radios. He evan puts iPod Jacks to them so you can play your iPod threw the existing radio. Not expensive either. Great guy and communication that is understandable. Al W.

Metal Plumber's tape is always useful when installing car radios, and would make a good substitute for the support strap.

I've had really good luck with old radios. The one in my truck came straight from the wrecking yard. I got the radio, speaker and all the knobs & brackets for $20! I cleaned it up and it works great! I used to have a '54 Mercury and that radio still had tubes! I found another radio at same wrecking yard and between the two managed to put together a good working radio. Most of the time the old radios just need cleaned up and they are good to go!

That bracket and that speaker on ebay item # 170442950090 doesn't look original to our trucks to me at all unless GMC's were different..heres a link to a thread I started awhile back about some reproduction speakers.

Please don't turn this into a sale ad, lots of good info here that would be a shame to lock.

Here are some pics of the stock mounting brackets... The bracket with two holes you see in the first three pics mounts to the firewall

I picked up a 52 Nash last fall. Found an add pushing the superior sound a 6 tube radio has over one with less. Radio works but the speakers are shot. 5ft antenna doesn't hurt anything either. lol

My 67 has the radio delete also. Waiting til i can scrounge up some money to hide one away somewhere.

In terms of guitar amps, tube amps are still highly sought after and regarded as some of the best amps available, vs solid state amps. I'm sure tubes would give a radio a beautiful colored warm sound.

Tube amps are sought after in the hifi world as well. Theres a lot of high end audio equipment out there that still employs tube technology.

The gift of pictures keeps on giving. Saved me a bunch of time of trying to figure out what my missing bracket looked like.
