Tach in original dash cluster !!

Hey Guys,
Saw this online while surfing the web ( perhaps it's yours ) and I would love to mount a tach as pictured Can't find a short sweep one that could be 'retooled' to mount as needed. Any thoughts or personal experience? All advice appreciated. jmcap |

In the FAQ section - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=646002
There is a thread on installing aftermarket tachs in our dash cluster - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=499570 someone also sells the bracket. Then there is another thread listed there - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=520520 |
Re: Tach in original dash cluster !!
Yet another example why this forum is great. On just about any other automotive forum, someone would have posted "do a search".

Re: Tach in original dash cluster !!
I'm grateful as well. Being a newbee I'll need to learn about researching previous threads on same topics. Sorry for my ignorance.
Thankful for the education, jmcap |

Here's a pic of mine back when I re-did it years ago. No need to retool a non-chev tach, unless that's what you want - factory tach repops (as shown in your 1st post) are available from LMC (part 36-1929: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=53) and the like, if I recall correctly. The best candidate vac gauges seem to be early 60's pontiac and chev console-mounted vac gauges - on ebay or at swap meets.
vac gauge install: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=527354 parking brake lamp mod (you might opt for this after you've wasted your first set of brake shoes :)): http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=419932 |
Re: Tach in original dash cluster !!
I wish I had a spot in my 63 dash for a tach like that :(

As far as the tach, it was a factory guage that came with the truck. I added the vacuum gauge from an Oldsmobile/Buick/Pontiac in the clock location. |
Re: Tach in original dash cluster !!
I am currently restoring the cluster for my 62. I was going to order the tach from the truck shop. it is for a 64-66 but I think I can make it work. I will post a picture when I get the tach. The information you get from this site is well worth the cost membership.

I just put a sunpro tach in my gauge cluster yesterday. Almost finished restoring it. I bought the tach at Summit for $110 I think...it had a chrome bezel around it and I took it off to fit better.

Roll the Dice,
Looks fantastic. What Model # sunpro ? |

Sweet! Love your clock also.

Re: Tach in original dash cluster !!
Thanks! That clock was used for the C10's, Impala's and Chevelle's as well!
