c5500 350 to 6.2 swap

Hey everyone, I will be buying the 72' C5500 as soon as my car sells. It has a 350 Chevy in it backed by the sm465, and my buddy has a 6.2 diesel for little to nothing. This isn't my first time around the 6.2's and 6.5's, i know they are no power house, but thats fine. What i need to know is what will I need to swap the two? Will the flywheel off the 350 bolt up to the 6.2? And il have to run a separate g.p. relay system.

I'm not sure about the flywheel, you may want to check in the diesel section on this forum regarding that part. I do know that the bell housing bolt pattern is the same and it is a direct bolt in on the motor mounts. Make sure to share some photos with us when you get it.

I am pretty sure that the 6.2 is externally balanced having rebuilt two of these. I recall the flexplate having a large weight spot welded to it. you would have to have a flywheel for a 6.2. I am also aware how gutless these are and would suggest a duramax instead. You would have 3x the power and the same mileage.

I'm not a big fan of Duramaxes, but if I did that, would it bolt up to my transmission? And If i swapped in a more modern diesel engine, it would be a Cummins or Powerstroke swap. Im looking for this to be a pretty simple swap. And i always liked the 6.2 idi's for some reason.

Not knowing much more than Powerstroke= Ford and Duramax=chevy, what exactly are the main differences between them that makes one better than the other?
You can tell I don't know my diesels.

This probably isnt the place to start a discussion on the big three's diesel motor choices. It will lead to an argument like always. I like powerstroke and cummins, and thats what i work on the most, duramax's are fast, but they just aren't at the top of my choice list.

One thing to watch for on that swap is the flywheel. Your truck should have the 13" clutch. (Easiest identifier for that is the bellhousing is bolted to a plate that is bolted to the block.) This may or may not give you a problem. I know a fellow who told me years ago that he did the same thing on a newer truck and it worked fine. But I never saw it first hand. I would in your case, put the turbo setup off of a 6.5 on your 6.2.

What about a 6.5? Will a pre 93' 6.5 bolt right up? Obviously ill need some wiring and small stuff, but i mean is it just like the 6.2? Bellhousing and motor mounts the same?

Up through and including 93 are mechanical engines. 94 started the electronic injection. Exteriors are the same.
