C30 to K30 dump

4 Attachment(s)
Finally found a donor C30 dump for my 86 K30 C&C. They are both model 31003. This was someone else's unfinished 2wd project. Already cleaned out the scrap front end in back and junked that and the old motor. Anyone by chance know what brand dump body this is? Parker by chance? The lift cylinder is in the front unlike the scissor lift I have on my Thiele dump. There are a few dump parts trucks for sale around here this era (this happens to be an 86) and this had the nicest floor of any of them for the price. Its also a 8'6" instead of an 8'0". All hydraulics, pto stuff came with too.

Crummy picture, but the "host" truck.

I'm diggin the spotlights on the host truck. You gonna leave those on there? Looks like you've got your hands full. I've seen dump beds with the manufacturer name stamped on the sides, under the toprail, but somewhere in the middle of the side.

Couldn't live without a forklift. Still have no idea what brand the body or hoist is, no markings anywhere. Doesn't really matter I guess. Parker was the fabrication shop that installed the body back in 1986.

Learned a lot about ptos this week. One from a 2wd won't work on a 4wd because it won't clear transfer case for one thing unless you have a heavy duty one from a big truck. Swap wasn't that hard. Had to make a new cradle for resevoir tank, fix dump "stop" on one side, re attach pivot to rear of host truck after cutting off of donor truck. Found adapter to use 4wd pto with existing pto shafts. Had to remove the old firetruck bubble gum light from cab top so that dump hang over wouldn't hit. Got body mounted today in 20 degree weater. Next step is to re route exhaust on driver side, tail lite and lic. plate lites, etc. All "lite" stuff lol.

That was a lot easier than mine to do..I used a regular flatbed..was 9 foot, cut down to 8 and put it on a 69 K/20 frame with 87 front dana60 and rear out of a 2003 chevyvan. I ran twin rams outside the frame with a electric/hydraulic pump. works great..has 5500 lbs on it...no problem..

I had am 86 but overloaded it and kinked the frame..well 7300lbs on a ton would do that

next load of gravel i haul in, I will get more pics.

Gettin closer. Have the controls hooked up, added some fluid, dumps up and down on its own now. Wish this snow would stop or I'd get more done. Still needs exhaust, tail lights, mudflaps, minor stuff.

Dump is in use finally. Even took it downtown to move daughter back from college at spring break. This thing rides very well for having 4:56s, stock tires, and being a dually. You can really tell it only has 28K on it, nice and tight. Also Found US ARMY Official Use Only under the layers of paint. Next step is a paint job and better tires. Probably the original frost white for the cab, black for the dump body.

Nice project what did you do with the mirrors on the green doors? :)

They are on or going back on the current truck after its painted. Right now it has a west coast mirror on the passenger side and a regular pickup mirror on the driver side.

Finally got her painted! No more patchwork paint look. Black gas tank, 4 new rear tires, "newer" front tires from P30 delivery truck. Truck has come a long way in a year. Also removed passenger spot light, has correct matching West Coast Mirrors now. Next is paint for the wheels, door panels, etc. Last pic shows as picked up last May in Pittston Twp. Pa.

I like it a LOT! See, there's no reason you can't do some serious work in style!

How much weight can that carry?

Re: C30 to K30 dump

Im sure the owner will chime in....but the normal GVW of a C30depending on the year is about 10,000 - 12,000 pounds. That truck with that bed and being 4x4 it probably weighs???..6000-7000 pounds. So doing the math legally you could haul 2 tons or less.

Depending on the material Im sure it would handle way more than that just not legally.

GM72K10 05-07-2011 07:01 AM

Re: C30 to K30 dump

72freak you are correct, this is a heavy duty K30, 11,000 GVW, weighs about 7000 empty, so can haul 2 tons legally but will hold more.

Finally painted the wheels, sandblasted them and painted them with (forgive me) Rustoleum gloss white. Next step is the dump bed, as of now its just touched up with rattle can black but looks good from a distance.

Drives great, hydraulic clutch is good, better than the mechanical in my K30 dually gas pickup, hauled 3 tons with it the other day, slow but steady. Actually has the best fuel economy of anything I drive, I guess that's not saying much but all I have is 1 ton or bigger trucks.
