Tilt steering column quality?

Hi,
Am am gathering parts for an auto conversion, and would rather a column shift than floor.
I have seen these
https://www.brotherstrucks.com/67-72...tinfo/CSC6772/

Being sold in a few places, I was wondering what the quality is like.
I don't feel like paying $200 shipping for junk.

Thanks.

Find out who the manufacturer is. Ididit or Flaming River both are quality parts. Stay away from columns may in China. Total junk.
I bought a rebuilt 72 c/10 column from a forum member who rebuilds them (can't remember name) and I am very happy with it.

Re: Tilt steering column quality?

I used an Ididit column in my truck. It is a column shift model with tilt function. I ordered the shorter length one as I'm running a power rack for steering.

It's an excellent quality unit. Top end appears stock, and did allow a difficult hook up to the power rack. Very difficult angle to achieve with the frame I'm running.

I think you would be happy with the Ididit unit. I also purchased a rebuilt tilt unit for a previous build from I believe it was LMC. It was a good unit as well. I never had any issues with either one. As a disclaimer, I also don't drive my trucks very hard.

I got a auto van tilt and it's all been rebuilt to go in my ramp truck. I took the auto stuff off of it and filled the holes to make it like a original 4 speed tilt. You have to put a new turn signal switch in it also.:chevy:

Search on here for tilt columns and one of the guys doing rebuilds of original ones should come up .

Think Kev’s classics is the person your thinking about. Think he’s in the Modesto California are. I’ve met him. His work is very nice.

This column is the CPP column... it can be had for 399 direct from CPP's ebay site with FREE shipping. I bought one and have yet to install it but so far it really does seem like a quality piece, Its the same one they use in the "week to wicked" shows they put out. if you want any photos let me know and I'd be glad to help. They do say it is a direct fit btw...

Re: Tilt steering column quality?

Well,

Thanks to all for the replies, I have ordered one of the brothers ones, they are on sale ATM and the shipping was reasonable.
Ebay has taken to raping all Australians with double or triple shipping charges being applied.
I recently bought a replacement igniton barrel and key, ebay wanted $70 us + import charges to ship.
Vendor did it direct for $11.
I pretty much only use ebay to research, find part numbers, vendors etc, but never buy through them unless I have too, their policies on guns and associated parts annoys me too, social engineering through comerce does not sit well with me. Facebook is the same.

I hope the brothers stuff is ok, I also ordered a washer pump, as mine does not do it sole function, I will order some door handles and seat belts soon too if I cant find any better.

Thanks again

I just don't understand some companies.

I ordered about $800us of parts from brothers early last week.
Got email confirmation etc, all good.

Then I get an email from them regarding shipping, I have now been waiting 8 days for a quote to ship.

I have emailed them several times with no further updates.

Looks like I w need to find someone else.
CCP don't ship to AU.

I think that I will try summit.

I used to have a friend in NH who would ship for me, but he moved to Canada, with shipping to and from there just as hard as AU.

Almost ready to give up and have a trip to California and buy it all, pack it up and send it home.

Most companies I have contacted won't even return an email.
Must be nice to be able to ignore customers.

Have you tried a freight forwarding company like www.myus.com? I've shipped things to customers through them with good results.

Re: Tilt steering column quality?

I've heard great things about Kev's Classics if you want a stock tilt. FWIW, there's a thread floating somewhere around here (can't find it at the moment) where a company did safety reviews of a lot of tilt column manufacturers. Flaming River & Ididit were great, however CPP didn't fare so well. Do your research before buying.

Re: Tilt steering column quality?

Hi again,

Thanks for the replies and information on the Cpp tilt.
I think I will give it a miss, I don't need a tilt, it was mainly for the shifter, as I am putting an auto in soon and thought a clean floor with column shift would look better than a lokar floor shift.

I have seen a couple of original tilts for sale, might be worth chasing one of them. Or just put up with a floor shifter.

I have used myus and stacry in the past, but with the new au tax laws, shipping has tripped in cost and the service has gone to crap, it like they don't want to ship to Australia.

I love being an Aussie, but it really test's me when it comes to shipping parts, I have had a great run so far, but Cpp and Brothers have been a huge disappointment so far.

Jegs seem to be about the most all round decent company to deal with, I have bought much of them in the past, but they don't have a suitable steering column.

Thanks again.

Very nice and I would think better than factory. He did a tilt for me and it is all top notch.
I bought another truck with tilt and I will be sending him another one.
The beauty with Kev is he knows where to shorten them for a perfect fit so you don't have a steering wheel in your chest with the seat all the way back. Top notch all the way.

I put an ididit non column shift in my truck, 8000 miles and no issues. Great product and only cost around $400, from summit racing. Think they ship overseas but not sure.
