Ever wonder what runs a heated paint booth?
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...122_202625.jpg
Kinda hard to see but it gets up to 145 degrees. I was hanging out in there because it was so damn cold (for California...lol)
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...122_204541.jpg
Back to the truck....I wasnt happy with the gaps on my truck. I could get the fender gaps right but then the cab was off. Got the cab to match then the front wouldnt. So.....off with the mounts:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...124_140545.jpg
Smoothed the weld for more clearance but decided to section the frame anyway:

Where the mounts needed to be

Cut lines

Cut
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...125_170723.jpg
Sectioned 1/2'' and put it back with the new mount holes.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...125_181550.jpg
I'll clean it up and weld it back in later. I needed 3/16 of an inch to clear so I gave myself 1/2''. The mounts needed 5/8'' so I went with 7/8'' so I could adjust more if I needed to but everything should fit much better now.

It takes a big ole gas line to run a big ole heater like that. Did one for a NASCAR race shop years ago.

Got a little work done today.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...131_180302.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...131_180317.jpg
I don't like grinding welds down but the were interfering with my mounts.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...131_181442.jpg
Started to shorten them and drill new holes for the mounts but ended up needing to go back to work.

I didnt plan out my motor mount modification well enough and had to trim down the inside to fit the clam shell mounts.

Re: Used Parts Build

I cupped my 1/2 ton arms. I was tempted to just buy the conversion spindles but I didnt like the way I recessed the ball joints in my C20 arms (they sat in the arm and water would go right into the ball joint).

All burned in top and bottom. Now need to finish stripping them down and paint them.

Ever so slowly chipping away. I have been studying for a licensing exam which is taking up all my free time. Anyway...
Cheap amazon gun. Worked great for 20 bucks!

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...327_234111.jpg
Bad pic but I cant get the nuts any tighter to close up 1/8'' gap in the bushings
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...327_234119.jpg
I ordered a couple new nuts to see if that fixes the problem.

I didn't. I swapped the cats back in before I smogged it. It was so loud I never put them back on after. It was louder than my big block with single stage flowmasters and 4 feet of exhaust.

Re: Used Parts Build

Picked up a Ford 9. It was supposedly rebuilt a year ago. I am going to have it torn down, inspected, and possibly shortened anyway. I wasn't planning on getting it but my neighbor was selling it so why not.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...411_111219.jpg
So here is a new one….I started reassembling the front end and the shocks hit the crossmember.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...411_183648.jpg
These are rear shocks (I haven't ordered the fronts yet, but even if they are thinner it won't work) anyone have this before? I am going from 3/4 to 1/2 ton and the control arm shafts are centered with the notches.

Re: Used Parts Build

Sometimes I start working and forget to check stuff along the way. Today was one of those days...
New shocks with some tabs I ordered awhile back:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_150808.jpg
I trimmed the back of the crossmember
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_152008.jpg
Ground a grove in the seam and welded it up:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_165320.jpg
Mocked up the shock (anyone notice my screw up?):
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_152459.jpg
Bam! Tabs welded on:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_165329.jpg
Plenty of extension for lift:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_170526.jpg
Problem was that they hit the upper control arm....ugh
So I cut them off, cleaned them up, and redid everything again....
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_193338.jpg
Here is my next problem. Control arm shaft hits the crossmember.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...418_193426.jpg
I know I have one shim in and will problem need more but I figured I'd grind back the crossmember a hair so I could adjust them if needed.
Tomorrow I will clean and paint up all the paint I removed.

Re: Used Parts Build

Started to clean out all the seam sealer and suface rust out of the cowl seam. It doesn't look too bad so I don't think I will need to cut out and replace any metal. Then I did a bit of painting

Thank you sir. I realized its been two years since I drove it. I need to get on it if I don't want it to be another two years...

Shortened actually. The green arms were my 3/4 ton arms. Did 7/8'' on the bottom and 1/2'' on the top. I plan to run a bit more back spacing on the wheels so I didn't shorten these ones.

Re: Used Parts Build

Been working on my metalworking skills. I wish I took the original picture. I was doing some heat shrinking. I made a softball sized dent in the fender. Here it is after a ton of heat shrinking:

After one more round and roughing out the dent:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...331_201334.jpg
Last night we were working on making new body lines. Here is a body line I made in a fender with a cold chisel:
