ok....let me get this straight.....you want to put a dinky little axle on an 8 lug 3/4 ton burb?
......why not just get a 2000+ 2500 or 3500 gm rear axle complete with disc and keep the rugged status of your classic truck! i'd have gone that route on my 72 burb 3/4 ton, but it is simpler just to change the rear gear and adapt the brakes and keep the vintage axle that looks really cool. |

I'm going to change the rear in my '69 C20 at some point, it's an Eaton with stupidly low gears (the 22" wheels help a bit though!) i'm just waiting for a later 8 stud axle to come along that i can get decent ratios for

Re: rear end help for 72 c20
there is a 4.10 ratio available for the ho52......pretty easy to do the swap and you are talking a 3/4 ton truck so anything less than a 3.73 is kinda soft. i am doing the gear swap on my 72 burb and eventually will add the factory OD unit to the saginaw (3 on the tree). i say soften the gearing a little and put in an overdrive....then you have the best of both worlds.....although a late model 14BFF would be killer in your old burb with trailing arms.......and have disc brakes and 3.73 gears. also...the newer axle will give a wider stance and more stability and bring the tires out to match the body lines better.
