Not sure what you mean by engine seems weak. I would do a compression and vacuum check on it first thing. That would tell a lot on engine condition. I would do some checking before I replaced it. Could be bad plugs, ignition problems, or fuel problems. My Red/White '71 Chevy pickup didn't seem to have much power when I first got it and I finally traced it down to the fuel sock on the in tank pickup tube. Replaced that and blew out the fuel lines and it ran great after that.
Just some thoughts.
