If someone is good with a blaster it is definitely the way to go IMHO. Some guys are good enough to not warp anything and you have beautiful bare metal that is perfectly clean. I have had bad luck with chemical paint strippers as they can get in seams and cause you all kinds of headache later on. Bad thing about soda is that you have to neutralize it or it can give you big problems later too. There are other types of media that are better. Last time I got a cab done it cost me around 175 dollars and they used coal slag.
