GMC Radiator support

I have a 1970 GMC that Im switching over to a 67/68 chevy front end. I have two questions.

1. Is there a way to make the gmc radiator support work for 67/68 chevy headlights. Im having a tuff time finding a 67/68 chevy radiator support, thats why im asking this.

2. I'm sure some of you guys have filled in your side marker holes and the three trim holes along the front edge of the fender, so that it looks like a 67 fender. I was wondering how you guys did it, any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Re: GMC Radiator support

You need a chevy core support. The make repos of the chevy, but not of the GMC. I was going to go with a GMC front end on my 68, but gave up looking for a GMC core support.

I haven't personally done it, but I'd just weld the trim holes closed.

Re: GMC Radiator support

are the repro radiator supports any good though? I've heard some bad things from people about the repro ones unless you buy thr GM repro ones which are pretty pricey.

I cant tell if i cut the gmc headlight brackets off if it will be the same as a chevy one, ill have to look closer when im home this weekend.

Re: GMC Radiator support

The difference in the core support are the headlight buckets. For me it made more sense to get a repro chev support than to weld new buckets on the gm support, sandblast + paint it.

Re: GMC Radiator support

Who sells GMC ones new?Don`t change a good OEM GMC support when Chevy ones are 5x more available.A GMC guy will buy your support. You can change the headlight mounting, but would be a pain to get accurate,IMO.

Re: GMC Radiator support

i thought about this swap before on my 68 GMC and if you look behind the dual headlight buckets that are spot welded on for the GMC you can see where the Chevy headlights go. The place for the adjusters and springs and all that is there. So i think all you would have to do is drill out the welds on the dual headlight buckets and peel them off and just get some adjusters to snap in and some 67 headlights. I may be wrong but this is how it seemed when looking at my truck

Re: GMC Radiator support

I don't have a trade but how much would you be looking for for the rad support ?

P.S. I have a 69, I assume it would fit...?

Re: GMC Radiator support

Wow you're pretty far away. Are you coming to NY anytime soon? I doubt you are but after I find the radiator support I want if I still have this one I'll let you know and maybe we can figure out the shipping for something like that.

my email address is cbw2965@rit.edu. E-mail me something about the rad support so that Ill have it in my mailbox and wont forget about you.

The radiator support is in good condition except for the spot on the bottom under where the battery tray is, but apparently thats an easy fix if you can weld according to a bunch of people on here.

67/58 GMC supports have the mounting wholes/threads for the splash pan,so their center grille support is a bit different, too. Will the supports interchange? Yes. You don't need to run a splash pan,if it's a later one you want to use on a 67/68
