filling trim hole

i was filling my trim hole and i got burn through, turned the welder down as far as i could and still get penetration and i still got burn though. so kept tacking and letting cool and i finally got it all welded up. its about an 1 1/2" x 1" should i leave it or cut it out and put in a patch. also i could get to back one to hold a piece of copper to it so i just used multiple tacks to fill. is this ok.

Re: filling trim hole

Metal is metal, so if you've already smoothed it out with a grinder and it's welded solid, with no pinholes, then I would leave it.

Re: filling trim hole

What helps me when filling holes is to use some magnets to hold a piece of copper on the backside of the hole.

Yes it will fill pin holes, but it doesn't resist moisture very well at all. Been there, done that, lol.
